Are my pills working?
Oct. 14th, 2008 10:18 am![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
About three cycles ago I stacked my pills for the first time. I think I got my period anyway, I can’t really remember, but since then, even though I went back to taking a week off for my period immediately, I had been spotting for about half my cycle, and now I’ve got a full period that started even before my last week of pills. If the pill isn’t even regulating my period the way it’s supposed to, do you think it’s even working to prevent pregnancy? Would it be a good idea to ditch the rest of the pack and start a new one when this period is over to try to get my body in sync with the hormones again?
If this has been posted before and I missed it, kindly refer me there.
Also, thank you to whomever suggested a steripen for my India trip: the thing was invaluable. And using a keeper was great; I didn’t have to worry about getting rid of plastic menstrual trash.

PSA! Automatic toilets!
Oct. 14th, 2008 10:20 am![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
Y'all, yesterday the WORST THING EVER happened.
First a little background. A few months ago, I bought a ladycup, which cost $40. I'm kind of poor right now. And I loved that ladycup, oh my god. I've been a divacup user for years, but the lady cup is an amazing improvement. So I loved loved loved it. (You can see where this is going, I imagine). Oh, and I have really heavy periods.
So I'm at school, at the beginning of what will be a long and busy day. And my period is so heavy, I have to empty my cup every hour or so. And the first time I go to empty it....plop. I drop it in the toilet. Never in five years have I ever dropped my cup! So I was going to fish it out. I know that's kind of gross, but I'm sitting there bleeding like crazy, no tampons or pads in sight, and a long day ahead of me. I was gonna do it. I stood up to get a better angle....WOOSH.
It was gone. :(
So the PSA is this: IF YOU DROP YOUR MENSTRUAL CUP IN THE TOILET AND THINK YOU WANT TO FISH IT OUT, DO NOT STAND UP. DOUBLE CHECK THAT YOU ARE NOT SITTING ON AN AUTOMATIC FLUSH TOILET. IF YOU ARE, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES STAND UP.
In other news, I just found out that my health insurance offers NO contraceptive coverage. WTF.

This has me seriously confused. I had my Paragard IUD inserted on August 7th. I noticed it expelling on Sunday (Oct. 5th) and had it completely removed the following Monday (Oct. 6th). (This was during what I thought was a natural period, as I was bleeding and it was the right time of the month.) I was prescribed birth control pills (Tri-Sprintec, although I don't see how that matters) to start this passed Sunday, the 12th. I started them, set an alarm so I'd take them correctly, yadda yadda. Now, in the week between my expulsion and starting my birth control, I had unprotected sex. I'd wager a guess at about 5 times, but I don't know exactly. (I'm aware that this was foolish, but that isn't what I'm here to discuss.) For the passed month or so, I've been experiencing bouts of nausea, increased sensitivity to smells (and my sense of smell sucks), and moodiness. I didn't think much of it, as I didn't think there was any way I was pregnant. After my expulsion, I read that you can expell due to pregnancy, and this had me a little paranoid. I was bleeding before I noticed the expulsion, so I assumed it was my period, but I honestly have no idea how long I was actually expelling because I didn't check that often. SO! I wanted to ease my curiosity with a test. I took it this morning, and it was positive, a faint positive, but it was there (I have a witness!). I had no idea how to react, so I took another one just awhile ago. Negative.
I don't know what's going on!! If the bleeding I experienced during my expulsion was my period as I thought it was, then the times I had unprotected sex, if they resulted in conception, wouldn't show up on a test this early, would they? Is it possible, if I am in fact pregnant, that I became pregnant because I didn't notice my IUD was expelling at an earlier time? My boyfriend has been extremely supportive, and he wants me to wait until I actually miss a period to worry/take anymore tests, but after a positive test, I'm dying to know.
Would it be ridiculous to schedule a blood test? Should I just wait until I skip a period? What in the world do I do about that positive test? Thanks to anyone who has any insight for me whatsoever. :S

Razor Burn + Labia = Uncomfortable
Oct. 14th, 2008 01:07 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
So I thought I could get away with using my disposable razor one last time, but the skin on my labia says otherwise...
I was wondering if there was any lotion or something I could put on the razor burn so it's not as unbearable?

Question, sorry for the TMI
Oct. 14th, 2008 01:43 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
Okay, quick question.
I skipped my placebo week last time to skip my period for personal reasons, now I'm due for my period again.
Actually, I started the placebo 4 days ago.
I'm just wondering if, when you skip a period, if the following one is supposed to be like a normal one or is it any different? Because (and here comes the gross tmi, sorry!) mine isn't really bleeding, it's really light. it's just like.. blobs and clots of black every once in a while; no bleeding. Not like normal.
Should I just wait out the 3 more days and see if it picks up like normal or what? Usually my period starts on the second day of not having the pills.
EDIT- Oh, I just remembered. If this information is any use, About a week ago I was put on an antibiotic for what appeared to be a UTI (I was just peeing a lot- hooray for more tmi!).. my GP told me that during this time and for a week after, that my pills would be innefective / to use condoms ..
could that be why my "period" isn't really like one at all?

hpv and herpes question- PIV sex
Oct. 14th, 2008 03:32 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
Since hpv and herpes are spread through skin to skin contact...
if you have sex with a condom and make sure not to touch skin to skin at all, can the girl still get hpv or herpes?
Edit: I appreciate the replies.
weird smell
Oct. 14th, 2008 03:39 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
Okay, so I know this is a really gross question and probably tmi, BUT: my pee smells like tuna. I am guessing the reason for this is because I ate tons of tuna last night. When I went to the restroom this morning, I got a huge whiff of it. Seriously? I know foods can affect the way your vagina will smell, but this just seems weird. Is it possible I have an infection? My discharge is normal and everything seems find down there except that I smell like my dinner. :( Should I just drink a bunch of pineapple juice and see if it goes away?

Why is it my vagoo is so irritated the day after a little nighttime fun with Mr vibe? I don't get it. Also my boyfriend is coming out this November, and you know what that means... sex. I'm a virgin but well versed on contraceptives, thought will being on the pill and using a male condom be enough? I'm most likely allergic to spermicides applied vaginally.
Pain during sex
Oct. 14th, 2008 04:36 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
I've been with my boyfriend for almost 2 years and every time we've ever had sex I've gotten sharp pains in my abdominal area. This has caused us to only be able to have sex in the missionary position and he usually has to be laying almost flat on top of me. Any other position we try hurts. It's almost like his penis is pushing on something inside of me because he'll insert it and I'll get the sharp pain but it goes away if he shifts or if he pulls out. I have been to two gynecologists (1 being my current) and they both have said everything is okay down there and after my most recent exam my gyno said, "as far as the pain during sex goes, change positions". I almost cried! Is there a chance that I just have a cyst and that's what is causing the pain? Should I see other gynecologists? His penis is on the larger side, could that pose a problem? This is really taking a toll on me and on our relationship and I refuse to believe there's just no explanation.

has anybody ever used summer's eve feminine wash and have any negative or positive comments about it? i've recently noticed that my vagina smells really different than it used to -- like, worse. i've been having a lot of gyno visits and actually had minor surgery down there about a week ago, so i think the aftereffects of that is causing it; i don't think i have an infection because besides a little bit of discharge (which i was told would be normal) i don't have any other symptoms. no pain or itching or anything. plus, i'm assuming my gynecologist would have told me if he noticed anything strange going on while he was in there just recently ;)
i just kinda wanna have some sexy time with my boyfriend, but i'm self-conscious about this new icky smell and want it to go away. i thought the *old* smell was bad enough . . . now i want it back. i use playtex feminine wipes about once a day, but they don't seem to be making much of a difference. do any of the summer's eve products help?
thanks, xx
edited to add: so many people had such great advice on this post, i don't think i could thank you all enough! the consensus seems to be that feminine "hygiene products are neither beneficial nor productive. i'll keep this mind and just talk to my doctor again if the problem persists -- or maybe i shouldn't even be looking at it as a problem. thank you all so much

Boric Acid
Oct. 14th, 2008 05:06 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
While I was at Wallgreens today I decided to see if they carried boric acid so i can pick it up and keep it around in case of a BV infection.
The only thing i could find said "PIC Roach Killer: Boric Acid" is that what is used for BV treatments or does boric acid come in different strengths?

Confused and impatient

I've been on Yaz for about 2 1/2 years now. Ever since the very first pack, I've always, always gotten my period on the next to last day of the pack.
Today I was supposed to start. I always start early in the day, about noon. It's already 8 pm and I don't even have the pre-period cramps yet! I haven't had sex, haven't missed any pills, and haven't taken any extremely late. I took one about an hour late, but I don't think that's a big deal. My boyfriend and I did fool around a little, but I know it's highly, highly unlikely for me to get pregnant by precum *especially* while I'm on BC.
So..what is the deal?! Where is my period? :(

First. VP is absolutely wonderful. I've been reading the site for a while now and it's great to see all the support and advice given to each other in the community.
I need a little help or insight. In August, I had unprotected sex, but my boyfriend managed to completely withdraw from me before he ejaculated. Also, he had peed several times and showered before this (I know pre-cum could have trace amounts of sperm if it hasn't been washed out by urine). Still, I took Plan B and got a strange period in Sept. It was pale pink at first but then turned into a regular normal period.
Last month, at the end of my menses (so before ovulation) I had unprotected sex again but again my boyfriend did the same (completely withdrew before ejaculating, urinated before, etc). I also wasn't in my most fertile time.
But now my period is late. About 4 days now. I have been stressing out to the point where I can't do anything else. I did take a pregnancy test yesterday (3 days after my missed period day, so it should be more accurate) and it was NEGATIVE. I was thinking Plan B may of messed up my cycle? One of my friends told me she completely skipped a period once because of stress.
I'm not having any significant PMS symptoms, nor am I having any pregnancy symptoms. In september I started school, started working after school, and moved to a new apartment. Could these things have affected me? I'm scared because I'm usually almost regular. Please help?
Thank you!
EDIT: Sorry if TMI but I also wanted to add I have been pretty dry (as in discharge) for almost a week. Is this normal before you start a period? Thanks.

really long period
Oct. 14th, 2008 08:14 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
My period has been going on for almost two weeks now...it normally only goes on for around 5 or 6 days, and only fairly heavy for two or three days. I'm usually regular at 26-9 days, but it was 10 days late. I've just starting take BC pills, I started taking microgynon on the day it started, as per my doctor's instructions. Perhaps this has caused it? Or could there be some other cause? Should I be worried ?(my boyfriend thinks I should go to the doctor)

Delaying Period
Oct. 14th, 2008 11:32 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
Hi -- I've searched for recent entries about this, but didn't really find an answer, so hopefully someone can still help me?
My long distance boyfriend is visiting at the end of November during the week that I should normally have my period. I am on OrthoTri Cyclen, so I came up with these 3 methods to delay my period... I just can't decide which is best or if one would be a really bad idea for some reason:
1) Do two packs of OTC back to back, skipping the green (4th week) pills. I've tried this before, but got some bad spotting during the end of my second pack, which would kind of defeat the purpose.
2) Skip the dark blue (3rd wk) pills, get my period a week earlier (?), therefore starting the new pack a week earlier and getting my period a week before my boyfriend comes in Nov.
3) Wait one week after my period ends to start the 2nd pack again, so my period in Nov is pushed back one week.
I don't have sex while away from my boyfriend, so I feel like it doesn't matter if I'm skipping a week of pills... it's more to stay in the habit than to be protected. But maybe I'm wrong? Are one of these methods better than the others, or does it really not matter?
Thanks for your help. :)

Period pains!
Oct. 14th, 2008 11:47 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
Hi girlies!
I'm sure this has probably been posted a gazillion times, but I thought we could have a bit of an empowering woman chat hah.
I'm going through a particularly painful period right now (achey legs, stomach pain, cramps, feeling sick, verrrry sore boobies! and so on) and there's nothing like having a good bitch about it!
So what are your favourite ways to relieve period pain?? There is, of course, the obvious, such as ibuprofen, but I'm talking non-medication.
Hope everyone's well!!
EDIT: Also, does anyone elses boobies get a bit itchy at the beginning of their period, or is that just me?!
