So, I inadvertantly took myself off my metformin for PCOS (long story, miscalculated how much I'd need for my three month working holiday and didn't bring enough!). Took my last pill the Sunday before last and lo and behold my period turns up on Thursday night (having only had one whilst being on the Met).
However instead of the usual 8+ day bleed, it finished this morning. Is this a coincidence it happened because I came off the met? I'm tempted to just stop taking it as it's done nothing to ease my PCOS symptoms - my periods are still as erratic and my facial hair has actually got worse.

About two months ago I started birth control for the first time. Of course, the doctor warned me that this could cause weight gain up to 10 pounds but I  hurryingly pushed the conversation along and didn't think twice about it. Approximately a week and a half later I started to puff up, my wrists, my ankles, my stomach and of course, not to mention my breasts. I noticed one morning that, in spite of all the water and coffee I was drinking, I wasn't peeing anymore. I drink on average 7 or more glasses of water a day and I usually pee on the hour. After being on the pill for a week or so, I lost all sensation. And when I attempted to pee, not much came. I panicked one day and stopped the pill all together and I've been free of hormones for probably about a month now. Naturally, I'm a pretty thin person. I've never weighed over 110 pounds in my life. I now weigh 122 and I still cannot seem to get the bloat out. And my swollen breasts, there's no chance in hell. I've tried skipping meals, lowering my sodium intake, drinking more water to flush is out, everything. Help, anyone?

Hi VP,

For the past 1-2 weeks, I've been having an awkward itch, but it is only on the right, outer side of my vagina. I'm sorry, I don't know the exact technical term, but I think it's my labia (?). It is an itch that I only have on the right side, same spot, every time.

This is my first time ever experiencing this and I don't quite know what to do. I've looked at it and there are no bumps, no signs of anything being different. It is purely an itch that I have throughout the day and is noticeable enough for me to want to relieve my itch. I guess it's not a crazy itch where I have to relieve it every minute, but it's definitely bothersome and I know something odd is happening down there!

To tell you more about myself, I've exclusively been with my SO for a year and a half and I've never had this itch before. The last time I've had sex was about one week ago and I believe at the time, I still had my itching problem.

Has anyone experienced this before?
What is it that I may possibly have,
What is causing it?
And what should I do?

Thank you so much in advance!
and please lend a hand :(

So, I kinda posted earlier about this, but this is the same problem from a different angle, as it were.

I've always had pretty light periods, with little to no period pain. Just recently they've become a lot heavier. I find myself having to leave social situations because I can feel that my sanitary towel is going to flood, and I don't want to stain my dress. I've had two embarassing incidents recently in hotels where I've left bloody splotches on the sheets. Look away now if you're squeamish: I had a ghastly, horrible thing today where I felt something damp running down the back of my leg and *hoped* it was sweat - it was a blood clot, which came out of the end of my trouser leg and stained the carpet. I had to pick it up in a piece of tissue, and yeeeeuuuurrrgh. Sorry. I'm also having very strong, cramping period pains.

As I said in my previous post, I've been checked out for just about everything. But does anyone have any tips to make it less 'orrible?

Hi!

So I have a few random questions and I'm not really sure how applicable they are to the community so I hope you don't mind reading about them. I don't really have anyone else to discuss these things with, so I hope you guys can help.

I'm 18 years old and have never, er...touched a penis before. A lot of my friends think I'm more experienced than I actually am, so I feel weird about talking to them about this stuff.

So, my questions basically involve hand jobs and blow jobs...both of which sound extremely awkward to me. When you're giving a hand job (assuming in a bed), do you just lie next to the guy and move your hand up and down his penis? And, do most blow jobs actually occur with a girl on her knees while the guy is standing up? Any suggestions/comments/advice for either of these?

I know most of these things just come naturally as the situation progresses...but I just feel like a lot of guys at my age will be way more experienced and I don't want it to be completely awkward.

Again, thanks for reading and I appreciate any help you guys can offer!

Hello everyone. I've been reading this community for a while and have finally come up with the courage to post my question here. My apologies in advance if this topic isn't appropriate for this forum but I haven't really found another place where I can ask my questions and I haven't found where they've been addressed in other areas on the web (or at least not with very helpful answers).

good morning! i have a story for everyone.

i am on ortho tricyclen lo. it works fine. last friday i must have done some serious sleepwalking when i woke up because i think i took friday's and saturday's pill. i probably said "time to take my birth control", took it, left the room, came back 10 minutes later and did the same thing. like some terrible mr. magoo cartoon! i realized this saturday when i went to take the next pill and (bum bum bum!!) it was gone! i didn't do anything because i didn't want to throw off my cycle o' pills. um. not the smartest idea. on sunday i forgot until almost 4 PM, and then i took sunday's pill. then for the rest of the week so far i've been taking my pill as usual. however. my period started yesterday. and it's not just brown sludge. the floodgates have opened. i was still taking active pills! how could this happen?!

my first instinct was to follow the pamphlet's instructions for missing 2 pills, which are take 2 pills once you realize you've missed one and 2 pills the next day. but that sounds like it would cause some serious mayhem with my menstrual cycle. my next intstinct was to toss out the pack and, since i am a sunday starter, begin a new one on next sunday. and just let my period have its way since i don't know how to beat it into submission.

thoughts?

and thank you for letting me unload my body problemz on you.

I think i have a yeast infection... I HOPE, at least...

I made an appointment with planned parenthood for tomorrow.  She said I could use my insurance but it would show up as "planned parenthood" on my insurance which I have a bigggg problem with.  My parents will be seeing it and they're very conservative and have no idea I am sexually active.  I asked if I could not have that on there, and she said i'd have to pay out of pocket $120-$165

I don't know what to do... I still haven't even bought my books for college yet! (classes start tomorrow).  I am thinking about just cancelling my appointment and waiting a few days to see if it goes away by itself... which might be a bad idea if it doesn't....

Help!

Have any of you had the Essure coils in you for more than 3 years? Have you gotten pregnant? Have you had any complications from the coils?

I'm on the nuva ring...my boyfriend hates it and says he can feel it during sex....

the doctor said that the ring can stay out 3 hours at a time so I've been taking it out before sex and putting it back in right away after.

Safe, or no?

I mean its not like its a female condom blocking anything, its really more so of the chemicals that it releases inside.

So, I've had these for a few months, but they're really starting to bother me (mentally). I don't know if they're skin tags, warts, or something else. I had a couple little bumps on one breast/near my breasts, but thought it was just a pimple. I went away on vacation, spending a large portion of a month on various trains. this means being hot and sweaty without any chance to properly clean anything. During that time, they grew, one in particular.

Some not so great pics )

The big one is at least three millimeters high. Now, I was diagnosed with HPV, the wart causing kind, and I was wondering if it could be that. I hope not, but warts are relatively easy to get rid of, I guess. The reason I wonder this is because I have allowed a couple people to use my breasts to..I guess masturbate, after PIV.

So, for the past few weeks I've been with a new sexual partner. We've decided to fluid bond- I was on the pill and I'm good with fertility awareness, so I let him ejaculate inside me. However, I noticed after he did so, I smelled like a fish market- typical sign of BV, right?

I don't really do the whole 'doctor' thing when I can avoid it, so I'm turning to hydrogen peroxide and water douches, which I've heard nothing but good things about for clearing up BV. The question is, how often should I use it? Much of what I read is that it cleared up "immediately" so should I just do the once?

Thanks in advance!

I thought I might have PCOS when I went off the pill, had horrible hair loss, weight gain, etc. (plus, I was diagnosed with it before, but since I went on the pill shortly after I thought it "went away")

I have really, really bad insurance, so I was putting it off until I started working again. Those symptoms I can deal with.

But lately I have had horrible hypoglycemia. Something like this cannot wait. I had called the doc before, and he said he didn’t think it was PCOS because “it doesn’t cause hair loss”.

So I know I am going into this with a doctor not too familiar with PCOS - but right now I don’t have the ability to shop around. When I get a job, I am going to hightail it to a specialist.

So I have to figure out a way to control the symptoms and/or prove to him that I am a candidate for PCOS. Any webpages, etc to start reading up on? Checklists for symptoms? Books to recommend? I have an appointment for next Wednesday.

Would going back on the pill for a couple of months be possible? (I am on an IUD) Just to control the symptoms until I have the money to actually figure it out. Or, should I push to try metformin?

Any advice, ANYTHING you all have would be very helpful.

Just to ease my mind (i.e. tell me I'm doing this right), if I were to want to stack the nuvaring (that is, skip my period), I would wear one for three weeks, then put a new one in immediately on the day I'm supposed to take the old one out. Y/N?

(i promise this is my last post about my iud!)

i had a mirena put in place last week. the insertion went well; everything is fine and dandy.

last night the FH and i decided to, uh, try it out for the first time.

so. before we actually got to any of the good stuff, i slowly became aware of a feeling in my uterus area. it wasnt a painful feeling. i was just aware of the area, physically.

we stopped. i told my guy. he suggested that as my cervix and whatnot are moving up to, uh, get ready for him, the iud would have to move to. and especially with it being new and the areas slightly tender still, i would feel the shifting more so than normally. (gotta love men who are somewhat educated about female anatomy and physiology.)

his guess sounds pretty plausible to me. is he right? and if so, is this normal?

also, what can i do about post insertion paranoia? ive got a pretty bad case. i know this was a good choice for me, but i dont feel in control. not like i did when i was on the pill or the patch or used condoms, when i had to physically do something AND i could see it. the mirena just seems too easy, even though logically i know it works great.
unless i am close to my period, i cannot reach my cerxiv with my fingers, so i cant check the strings. im terrified that im going to expell it and not know...

I'm currently experiencing fairly extreme mood swings after discontinuing my HBC. (I stopped taking it 2 days ago due to said mood swings.)

Does anyone have any advice for staying sane while having sudden changes of mood?

I'm trying to keep busy and tell myself that it will be okay and that things will get back to normal soon when I'm feeling down, but I'd really appreciate any other tips.

Hi, everyone. First of all, I just want to say that I purchased a DivaCup today and I'm really excited to use it. I really hope that it works for me. Without this community, I wouldn't have looked into alternative menstrual products, so I thank you for that.

Anyway, I'm sure this question has been asked time and time again, but I checked the tags and couldn't find anything pertaining to my problem. So, here goes. My partner and I are in a LDR and I recently visited him. We engaged in oral and vaginal intercourse, and we used lube (the Astroglide with no parabens or glycerin). Ever since (five days later), my vagina has been incredibly dry. I have been producing no discharge whatsoever. My vulva is slightly itchy, but I mainly attribute that to the lack of moisture. This is strange for me considering I usually have the opposite problem, that is producing too much lubrication. I just don't know what's up, if this is a YI, BV, or just a funky point in my cycle.

I was wondering if anyone could offer some insight into what these symptoms could be an indication of . . . I had BV a few months ago, so I'm hesitant to visit the doctor unless something seems seriously wrong. If you could suggest any natural remedies that might help, that would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks. :-)

Does it bother you at all?

Lately, I had made the decision to not read any forums or topics that were related to sex because it would trigger self destructive thoughts.

Recently, I lurked on another forum titled "Orgasms" and was overwhelmed by the number of women who were having multiple o's, squiriting, yelling orgasms etc.

I didn't like the attitude and tone of some of the women on that forum either, they just seemed so condescending to me. All the bragging. It seems that women who can easily orgasm tend to think they are a step above of women who can't. One poster even referred to women who can't have vaginal o's as 'poor women'...it infuriated me, and made me sad and angry at the same time. I guess I am missing out on a lot, the way they were describing how magificant their orgasms were

I still have a long way to go. I should have never lurked in that forum.  I'm not in a good mood

I just had to get that off my chest

brief background:

i went to the doctor yesterday for frequent urination. as in, i'm going 15-20 times a day, sometimes less if i'm quite busy or have enough to distract me from that "gotta go" urge". but the frequent urination is not accompanied by any blood in the urine, pain during urination, stomach pain, back pain, discharge, or anything else that would lead me to believe that it was a BV, YI, or UTI.

i'm 18 years old, a PIV virgin, and the last time I had any sexual contact was 4-5 months ago (can't quite remember) where oral was performed on a guy, then some kissing, then he performed oral on me.

my urine samples came back normal, just with a slightly elevated level of protien, and the doctor wanted me to do another sample to test for chlamydia. i stressed to her that there has never been a penis in contact with anything near my vagina in close to 7 months, nor has ejaculate come in contact with my vagina ever, and i haven't been sexual in 4-5 months. she was really insistent though and did an exam on me before letting me pee in the cup, just to "check things out". i flat out refused the speculum, though. i kept telling her that it wouldn't fit, and it took a lot of insistent persuading for her to just look without anything penetrating me.

the long and short of it is, what would make her believe that i had chlamydia with this combination of symptoms? i was pretty peeved after the appointment because i got the feeling that she didn't believe me when i said i wasn't sexually active.

I can't find any information about this from Google, but is it a bad idea to use a sea sponge to absorb semen after sex? I am on the pill and we are both STD-free so my only worry about him ejaculating inside of me is the uncomfortable sensation of it leaking out when I'm walking around hours afterward.

I figured a sea sponge would be a lot less irritating than a tampon, which I have used in the past, but I don't know if there are any dangers in doing this I haven't heard of...

Hey there ladies!

I had a lovely (not so much) ingrown toenail recently, and it got infected. Ew plus ow!! So I went to the doctor, and he put me on antibiotics for the infection.
I just finished the last pill today.
I had sex twice while on the antibiotic, and I made sure my boyfriend had a condom both time. I know the basics that antibiotics may affect the effectiveness of HBC.
What I don't know, however, is how long AFTER taking my antibiotics do I need to continue using extra precautions before I can trust my HBC again?

I'm on NuvaRing, and I have no clue what my antibiotic was. I think I already threw the bottle away.

Just some general advice would be nice, thanks!

Hi ladies, a long story about my uncomfortable evening, and a question.

long story... )

Little background:  I'm on a progestin-only pill.  I have been increasingly terrible about taking it at the same time each day.  Realizing I've only managed to take about half of them in the past 2 weeks, and none nearly at the same time of day.  This week I gave up, frustrated.  like this --> Fine! No more pills!  (monogamous, condoms are primary BC)  My finance reports that the POP killed my libido anyhow.  I need a new gyno (anyone? I'm moving to 60622, I work in 60606.  recommendations?)

My understanding is POP pills may or may not suppress ovulation.  Maybe my body is actually ovulating instead of just "going thru the motions" ... and it's painful?  Is this plausible?  Until I find a good gyno, does anyone have any advice for me?  I don't want to go thru this next cycle...

Is it possible for a woman to be pregnant but have a negative result on a home pregnancy test?

I ask because I took one and it came out negative, but I've been experiencing horrible nausea for about a month now. It's driving me crazy and I'm trying to figure this out on my own before I can see gyno next month. Because I don't think I can take much more of this. :|

Hi everyone! I've had a bit of a problem concerning my period for quite some time now. First off, let me start off by saying I do have irregular periods. Not  outrageously irregular...but every once in while I will go a month without a period (never more). Lately (and I mean within the last year) it hasn't been too bad and has been coming every 25-30 days.  Now, to my problem. I started my period on July 17. I still have it...which means I have been bleeding non-stop for over a month.  The first two weeks were pretty light, but since then it's been my 'normal' flow. I went to my doctor about 2 weeks ago and she didn't really help me out with this problem. She had me take a pregnancy test, thinking I may have been having a miscarriage but  it was negative. I asked to go on birth control and I started TriNessa on Aug. 11.  I just want to know if this is normal or if it sounds like something is wrong? I'm getting very frustrated!
