This isn't quite vag-related, so delete if necessary:

I've been vegan for four years, and began being vegan just as I hit puberty. Four years later, (I'm 18, almost 19), I am wondering if I have stunted some important developmental growth somewhere along the line. I was on hormonal birth control for two years, and felt that adequately maintained hormone levels, however, I no longer am taking oral birth control and am trying to understand what's going on with my body.

Is there any correlation between diet and hormone levels? I can imagine that there is, and maybe I am misguided in attributing my inconsistent moods (and other body issues) to my diet, but maybe there are others who have noticed similar tendencies?

Are there any foods that are rich in nutrients needed for proper hormonal development that I might be missing (or could have been missing)? Or that I could eat more of?

Any thoughts/advice is appreciated.

[livejournal.com profile] frolicnaked and I were chatting the other night, about things unrelated to the maintenance of [livejournal.com profile] vaginapagina and we came to the topic of embarassing birth control stories. I told her that recently, after my miscarriage, I'd restarted the pill at the suggestion of my midwife, to shrink some big ovarian cysts. Late one night, I popped out my birth control pill, and with the rest of my pills, went to take the whole mess. I grabbed my water bottle, but somewhere, between my hand and my mouth, I dropped my birth control pill. I couldn't drop it somewhere convenient, like on the rug, of course, but it had to fall into the trashcan, next to my bed, filled with snot-coated tissues from the cold I was suffering through. So there I am, in the middle of the night, dumping out the trashcan, and shaking each tissue, sorting them out to dig out my birth control pill, and of course, finding it near the bottom of the can.

I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] frolicnaked will share her own story with you, shortly, but we're certain that we can't be the only ones with embarassing contraceptive stories. Feel free to share and post them here. If you've got a story to share and don't want your name attached, you can e-mail either of us at our vaginapagina dot com addresses (geminigirl at vaginapagina dot com or frolicknaked at vaginapagina dot com) and we'll post your comment anonymously.

So share, and share alike.

hi. i am new here. i have a couple of quick questions:

1. does a doctor know if you're on birth control pills when you don't want to address that factor to them?
2. does a doctor know if you have had sex even though your hymen is still in tact?

i don't want to address these two things to a doctor because it will most probably bounce to my parents and i certainly don't want my parents to find out otherwise they kill me and stop me from going to school.

i seem to have a non-stop bleeding for two weeks now, and severe cramps and nausea. my school counselor told me it could be hormonal changes but she believes that i never had sex and never taken birth control pills. i have only started taking the pills btw.

does anyone know if a doctor would know these things even though you don't tell them? i don't think i have any STI's since my boyfriend checked himself before having sex with me. is there such thing as your hormonal changes happen naturally without birth control (maybe due to changes in diet or something)? i really want something to talk a way out of from telling the doctor that i have been taking the pills.

thanks so much for any help.

Hi everyone. I have a question...

It was my roommate's turn to buy toilet paper, and she came back very excited over her discovery: pink toilet paper with flowers printed on it, and on top of that, it's perfumed.

My question is, does dyed and perfumed toilet paper promote infection, specifically UTIs and yeast infections? I can't see *how* dyes and perfumes in such a sensitive area would be a good idea! I don't want to approach her and tell her the wrong thing since I'm unsure, but I'm not really keen on using it since I know I've read somewhere that it's not good for the body.

Thanks!

Good morning Vp-ers! I have a rather embarassing question to ask, and since it is slightly TMI I will put it under a cut. Thank you :)

So, my doctor has put me on two different antibiotics in the last month and a half for strep and then potentially -cillan resistant strep and of course it's messed with my cycle (last period started May 22 and according to my Cycles Page should be starting today, but second antibiotic was during that time(Levaquin)). I have been stressed out lately and did have sex during my green days, but not sure if anything "malfunctioned".

I've been cramping off and on since Thursday(sometimes a bit worse than post birth of my son cramps), but upon investigation, I've only noticed a little bit of slightly bloody tissue/gel occasionally. I've been woozy lately, but I've also been having some migraines and not sure if it was that or what. If I am pregnant, this isn't anything like my last one. I went to put in my Diva cup yesterday and I'm pretty sure I hit my cervix with my finger being barely two knuckles in (I really don't remember it being that low before, but it's "donut" shaped and upon wiping it once got a little bit of the slightly bloody tissuey type stuff).

I'm scared. I don't know if it's hormones or what, but I just don't feel so well and I still don't know if I trust my doctor enough yet. I've been feeling incredibly exhausted physically and emotionally. I figured I'd see what you all thought now, since my doctor's office isn't open yet.

I got this from my bellydance yahoo group:

Ladies,
I just found out about this great project to promote cervical cancer
awareness. If you go to the website, you can order a kit (they even
pay shipping and handling) with enough beads to make two bracelets--
plus Merck Pharmaceuticals will donate $1 for each kit ordered.
http://www.maketheconnection.org/default.asp
Since any one of us could get cervical cancer, this is something that
does matter to each and every one of us. And while I'm on this
particular soapbox, have you had your annual pap test? If you haven't,
schedule an appointment this week. Encourage your friends, mothers,
sisters, and daughters to go in and get checked. I always do it around
my birthday, which is coming up. And heck, since we have to go through
our dreaded exam, make sure any guys you care about over 40 have a
prostate exam.
Please forward this to anyone who may be interested--even if they
aren't into making jewelry;)

A minute ago my friend and I were discussing the fact that she can't swallow pills. She just lets her BCP dissolve in her mouth under her tongue. She's not currently in a relationship so protection isn't important here but is this a suitable way to take the pill? Could it be absorbed more/less/differently to swallowing it?
She's never discussed her method with a doctor before.

EDIT: Thanks for all your input everyone!

I checked in the memories and only found entries on how to deal with PMS but I had a question about PMS symptoms changing over the years.

My first few years with my period were okay. My PMS symptoms included cramps and mild crankiness you could say. As the years went on my PMS symptoms went from mild to raging. Any little thing could tick me off. I used to get so annoyed at everything. I went on NuvaRing to help subdue my terrible cramps and I found that my irritation is back to mild but now I've become weepy. I could cry at the drop of a hat. Could I contribute this to birth control or has any one else (on or off birth control) found that their PMS symptoms, especially emotional ones, have changed?

I'm going to start taking my pack & was wondering what time I should pop the first pill? I got up late today (11 am) and discovered I have my period. It's not ideal to take it everyday at 11 am or even lunch hour since I have a job so is it okay to take it at dinner time/before I go to bed? Since my period started in the morning, is it okay to take the pill in the evening?

As well, if I want to eventually switch to taking it in the morning, how can I do that?

Hello, all!

I checked the memories and posts, but I didn't find anything that could answer my question.

I just wanted to know why spotting happens when one is on hormonal birth control. What brings it on? I am currently spotting, but I'm not sick, stressed, or off with my pills (ortho-tricyclen).

I was just curious. Thank you!

i cannot find boric acid ANYWHERE.

i have been told on here several times to "check my local pharmacy" but my local pharmacy is not working, so, my question to you is,

where specifically have you found boric acid? preferrably in the metro detroit area. specific drug stores, specific health food stores, etc.

and where is it located in the store? what does the bottle look like? does this store sell the empty gel caps also? if not, where specifically did you purchase those?

i am having so much trouble and no one will seem to help me out..

So sunday morning I committed a huge sex no-no. Without thinking we went from anal to vaginal intercourse without any protection or stopping to wash up. Now I know that one should never do that because the anus contains many bacteria that you do not want in your vagina, however unfortunately it happened. So now my questions are: what bad things can occur out of this mistake? And second, can I do anything to lessen the chances of these things from happening?

I have to ask if anyone else has experienced seriously sharp pains in their sides during ovulation and their period. I have a high pain threshold, and I have a history of heavy painful periods. But the past 4 or 5 months the pain I'm getting in my side around ovulation and during my periods, not cramping pain, is getting worse.

Last month i ended up in the hospital for it, serious enough pain they thought my appendix was rupturing. Thankfully ended up not being that, but the catscan and ultrasound both showed I had a 2.5CM cyst on my right ovary. Now a month later I'm ovulating again, I'm bleeding alot more during it (I never spotted previously) and the pain is sharp and severe on my left side.

I went to the doctor about a week after I went to the hospital and he told me, "2.5CM is normal, and its just normal ovulation pain." (I'm sure if he had a 2.5CM cyst on his testicle i wouldn't be so normal ;p) I won't even mention how patronizing he was about it. I hate doctors and hospitals, it takes a lot to get me to go, I can count on one hand all of the times I've ever gone to a hospital in my life. I'm currently now trying to find a new doctor after a series of issues with this one. But I need to know is there ANYTHING I can do about this? Anything I should be asking the doctors to look at or test for? Am I just having something normal happen?

Aleve isn't touching this, and the vicodin the gave me at the hospital isn't helping either (added that I hate taking that sort of stuff).

I thought I had a yeast infection so the nurse called in 1 pill perscription. I still had problems after a few days so I went into the gyno office. He Informed me I had Bacterial Vaginosis and gave me perscription for Metrogel. I started using it thursday night and I itch very rarely and have a little smell not bad like before. Tonight will be day 5 should it go completely away or is there anything else I might need to do.

Thanks!

I have been taking Ovcon35 for the last few months, but went to a new gyno with whom I decided to try the Nuvaring. The doctor said to insert my first ring within 5 days of my period starting. I usually get my period like on Wednesday or Thursday, and start a new pack of BCP on Sunday, so I just figured that I should stick with Sunday.

Then, this morning, I got a super special surprise and started my period a few days early. Now I don't know what day to put in my ring. If I was still taking pills, I would just wait till Sunday like I am supposed to, but I don't want to mess up my first month on the ring. Should I put it in like on Friday or just wait till Sunday?

Thanks in advance for your advice.
