So, I made a doctors appointment today to have my implanon removed. Im happy with it and love the fact that I am always protected, but I cannot deal with the near constant bleeding anymore. A friend who also has the implanon and is also dealing with constant bleeding has told me today that there is a pill that you can take alongside implanon to stop the bleeding. Does anyone know what it is? And is it hbc?
Thanks!

Just as a bit of science, the reason that you have irregular bleeding on Implanon is that the progestin makes your uterine lining unstable. Combined hormonal methods like most oral contraceptives contain estrogen which helps to stabilize the uterine lining. So while I don't know the actual answer to your question, I would bet it is something containing estrogen, possibly oral contraceptives.

When I went to the doctors to complain about constant bleeding on the Implant, they suggested Cerazette, which is just progesterone only. I don't understand the biology behind it, and I opted to have the damned thing taken out only for the bleeding to miraculously stop before the appointment to do so :P so I don't know how it works, but I just thought I'd mention it wasn't a combined pill, at least not when I asked about it.

Maybe the kind of progesterone in Cerazette is less correlated with spotting? Different versions of the hormones act slightly differently, person to person, as well.

High doses of progestins can work to stop bleeding, too, that's true. Although since Implanon is already a high dose of progestin, I would be curious to see any studies that suggest that adding Cerazette would help stop breakthrough bleeding on Implanon. I'm not suggesting you look it up or anything--I'm just wondering if your doctors were basing their information on a study or if they were just guessing.

I have had the implanon for 4 months and haven't bled at all. I wonder why, I hear that constant bleeding is so common with this.

I know nothing of the pill mentioned, but I am glad you mentioned it. As in the future, if it becomes an issue, I will know what to research.

I've had it for over a year and a half and last month or so is when I started bleeding like whoa. For three weeks. Then it stopped for two. Now it's back. No bleeding from 8/2010 until last month. I'm gonna have to look into this pill thing because the whole reason I got on implanon was no periods (like depo).

Good luck with yours. :D

I went to get my implanon out last month because of the constant bleeding. Instead, the nurse talked me into trying Cerazette on top of the implant.

It's a progesterone only pill and she said the only reason she couldn't give me a combined pill was because of my weight (overweight but not scary overweight). It's worked but the side effects of all that progesterone are weird mood swings which I am not loving. They seem to be settling down now I am into week 4 but honestly not comfortable with the level of fake hormones washing through my system right now.

(I had my first implanon for the full three years with no bleeding, no issues, no problems. Second one is a bit crap)
