I started Yasmin before my period begins. I am not sure if it was breakthough bleeding or spotting, but I started to get this kind of brown blood leaking since Monday. I read on the internet that it is normal. But what I cannot find answers to is that my butt started to feel itchy like crazy especially yesterday. Last night not only it was itchy I started to feel this raw burning feeling and as though it is swollen. It hurts like crazy when I sit and when I lay down. I woke up this morning feeling worse than ever, and when I went to the bathroom, I can feel like my butt is swollen and it flares out. I wonder if this has anything to do with b/c side effect or signs of allergy to Yasmin. I have never taken Yasmin prior to this. Do I need medical attention for this? Could this be infection or something? Any help?

It sounds like some kind of allergic reaction (though that would be a contact allergy, such as to something you ate (though that would be more likely to cause overall hives) or to your laundry detergent), a yeast infection, or potentially a herpes outbreak. If it's really painful, then going to a doctor wouldn't be a bad idea at all.

Good luck!

Whatever it is, it sounds like it's pretty awful... If it's an allergy, an antihistamine might help. If it's yeast, unsweetened, unflavored yogurt would be soothing. If it's HSV... Unfortunately, that'd only respond to anti-virals like acyclovir. ...I would not put toothpaste on that area for any of those, personally.

(If you are with a partner who gets cold sores, do know that cold sores are HSV: oral herpes. Usually HSV-1 prefers the mouth, but in the absence of antibodies, it will jump to the genital region pretty happily. Something I -- who gets cold sores, aka oral herpes -- would have liked to have known before becoming sexually active! ...fortunately, my spouse apparently has antibodies. Whew.)

Good luck!
