epilators

I recently purchased an epilator. And I really love the idea of it, but I can't use it where I'd like to because of the pain (I can barley stand to use it on my legs). But I know some people use it on their bikini areas/arm pits instead of waxing or shaving. My question is, what have you found to numb the area effectively?

Try giving the area you are going to use it on a good 'scrubbing' with a dry loofa or other coarse pad. I think of it as getting the pain nerves in the area exercised so they will be 'tired' when you actually use the epilator on that area. Using real hot water might do the same thing and relax the skin a bit. It at least takes the edge off.

Also, I believe that leg hair is deeper than hair in the pubic area, so it hurts more to use it on legs, but that might not be a generally true.
