[identity profile] macdatty.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] vaginapagina
Hello!!! Someone recommended this community to me, so I'm very interested in hearing your feedback :) !
I've posted this in a couple of other communities.. but I've gotten VERY mixed suggestions from people... actually, most peoples responses focused on STDs.. which wasn't what I was questioning really but anyway...
I've been on ortho-tricyclen for 5 years now.. my doctor gave it to me to clear my skin up originally.. but now I'm sexually active with my boyfriend. Are there different doseages.. or will this work effectively for sex too (or would I have to up the doseage)?
Do you wear a condom, PLUS take the birth control pill? I'm thinking about just using the pill instead of both (we dont use the condom properly anyway)...... but I guess I'm sort of uncertain... the pill just seems so miraculous.. 1 teeny pill.. every day. for 28 days can do SO much... it just seems unreal...
I guess I don't want to be paranoid.. yet maybe I don't really have a reason to be? I take my pill at noon everyday...
(btw, I'm looking at avoiding pregnancy at this time.. yes, I know abstinence is the only full proof option, and I'm not asking a question about STDs).
I don't know why, but I just can't get off when he's wearing a condom even.. maybe we can try thinner ones.. I don't know. The last one we used gave me a horrible burning sensation and he got a rash from it (prob the spermicide).
Anyway, I was just curious to what methods you all use for birth control...
:)
Thanks.

take your pill at the same time every day and you wont' get pregnant (of course there's that whole 99.99% or whatever...heh). you don't need a stronger dosage.

and i use a combination of tracking my cycle on the calendar and cervical mucus (and soon a basil thermometor) coupled with boy pulling out to not get pregnant.

totally

I had this discussion with two different doctors who told me that the pill should be enough. BOth even said it would be effective if i took it about the same time every night. My boyfriend still pulls out to be safe. It has worked fine so far. Always be sure to see if medicines you are taking will interact with the pill. iF so, just wrap it up until the next pack...If you are still concerned talk it over with your doctor. Mine helped me a lot. Good luck ;-)

yess.... welcome. you will love it here, i'm sure :)

i also have many problems with condoms. im allergic to latex, and have the same problem you have about not being able to get off. i absolutely hate them, actually.

i've been on the pill for the past 6 months, and previously for a year. i've never used any other form of protection while on the pill and have had no scares.

luckily though, im married now and itchin to have kids so im not too concerned if things go awry. i still trust it 100% though. i've heard stories about people (who were obviously very fertile) becoming pregnant after missing just one pill, so i would suggest using something else if that happens. good luck!

If you're not sure whether you're allergic to latex or not, you might want to try using a non-latex condom and see if that's any better. They make ones out of polyurethane (I think) that are a lot less likely to cause an allergic reaction. Plus, they're usually thinner and transmit heat better.

It does sound like one or both of you may be having an allergic reaction, so it would be good to find out, especially since you should have an alternative form of birth control on hand just in case.

it says "multiple orgasm donor" and it's my fave shirt ;) it's been stolen a few times, but i've always managed to get it back!

and yes... i meant if u miss one pill. i forget mine all the time though... rarely take them at the same exact time, etc... but i have a friend who got pregnant TWICE... just from missing her pill for a day. i dunno how true that is though. i've missed mine many times but have had no problems so i dunno. just a word of caution!

once i had a condom break, which sucked ass because i couldn't find anywhere with the morning after pill. luckily i started my period soon after. another time i got one stuck inside me... yeah... that sucked, too. i ended up walking 3 miles before it would come out. i just hate those things. they do nothing for me or the men i've been with.

you definately have to trust it yourself, but i would say that if you take it at the same time every day, it's pretty damn trustworthy. it is supposed to be 99.7& effective so i'd have to say your chances are pretty good. (i still can't wait for the male pill... though i don't think i could trust my hubby to take it!)

(btw... i love your little canadian lingo, yeah?) :it says "multiple orgasm donor" and it's my fave shirt ;) it's been stolen a few times, but i've always managed to get it back!

oh yes, i forgot... they say that antibiotics reduce the effectiveness (or something along those lines... forgive me, i'm pretty tipsy). i never take those though... i'm a echinacea and ginseng girl and it's been working pretty well for me. i don't think the antibiotics do SHIT, but of course thats just my opinion. i get sinus infections constantly (more since ive lived in the damn north country as they call it) and those usually clear them up.

st. johns wart can also interfere with the effectiveness of the pill.

I am on the same type of pill. both for my face and for birth control as well.

The pill is the only form of birth control i use (i don't like condoms and i haven't had a boyfriend yet that did either) but i take my pill like clockwork. 7 pm every night. if you don't forget your pill and you stay on top of things i think you should be alright.

or if you really hate condoms there's this neat stuff that's a sheet which you push up into your vagina and it dissolves into foam. You can get it most places. you might be allergic to that though.. Might want to find out. it's 94% effective so without a condom you should be covered if you use the spermicidal foam and the pill.. And let's not forget our friend the cervical cap.

The Pill isn't 100%, but if you take it right it's closer to than condoms are. If you would feel more comfortable, sure, try poly-uretherane condoms--or, since I assume you're not worried about STDs and just pregnancy (seems that way), try lambskin. But if you're really good about taking the pill, and make sure to use a backup method if you've been sick or on meds that can interfere with it, your chances are really very low for pregnancy. The Pill is all I use... hasn't been that long (less than a year) but no pregnancy scares yet *knock on wood* :) and I trust it so long as I keep track of taking it right.
