[identity profile] misssockpuppet.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] vaginapagina
i have aonther account but i'm terrified of friends finding me so i'm going to post under this sock puppet account from now on.
this will be my last post, begging for any help.

time line:
saturday, february 6th, i went to the dr for a possible yeast infection...slight itching and a white discharge. she confirmed it, and i started monistat-7 (generic) that night. that day was also the last active pill of birth control so on...
thursday, february 11th, i started my period, while still using the suppositories.
friday, february 12th, my last day, i used a tampon once, due to bleeding through all of my clothes that day and no pad being able to hold what i was bleeding. i used the last suppository that night.
saturday, fine.
sunday , feb 14th, i used a scented always pad, the regular size, ultra thin. i usually use always scented panti liners, but i slept in an odd position with this pad which made my vag not able to breathe at all and the pad was suctioned to me when i woke up. and that whole day, i had itching.
yesterday, the itching continued, worsening throughout the day, and i couldn't sleep at night.
today, i went to health services at college, mentioning the yeast infection i had last week, but completely blanking out about the pad, so i forgot to tell her that. she said she wanted to check for lesions or blisters, said she didnt find any, but i think i might have found one tonight. she gave me a prescription for diflucan and told me to fill it tonight, because though she didnt mention that she saw any yeast in the pelvic exam, she still thought thats what it might be.
so now, i'm up late. itching like HELL. i took the diflucan at 8 pm, so i'm assuming it shouldnt start working until at least the morning. but still, i examined myself, more extensively than i have before, so what i found MAY have always been there, but maybe not, and now that i see it, i'm panicking.

so, what i found was a small bump/skin flap thing near the bottom opening of my vagina, and also that my left inner labia is more swollen than usual at times.

could the flap being a piece of my hymen?
the dr used a metal speculum, so i dont know if she saw the inside as well as she wouldve with a clear speculum.
she didnt mention anything being wrong, and like i said, ive never really examined myself this extensively before, so it might have always been there.

To my eye, and I am not a doctor, the little flap near the bottom of the vaginal entrance looks normal.

As far as the irritation goes -- I would strongly recommend reconsidering the use of scented pads and pantyliners, in general and especially while recovering from a yeast infection. Some people are not too irritated by them, but in general they pose a significant risk of irritation, and may well have exacerbated, if not outright caused, your current itching; they are generally strongly recommended against by health care professionals.

What I can tell you is this: don't panic. There is almost certainly nothing going on right now that a change of environment for your vulva, and/or an additional prescription, can't fix. It sounds like your yeast infection may simply have gotten worse, or you may be having an additional reaction to the scented pad perhaps caused by your vulva and vagina being irritated from the infection to begin with.

hang in there, and definitely talk to a doctor about getting a new prescription and/or swab if things don't start getting better soon!

All I can say is that from personal experience of many, many years ago, when I used scented pads or pantyliners, it led to a horrifically itchy rash that lasted for at least seven days. I realize you've used them before without that reaction, but at any rate it certainly didn't help and if it did exacerbate or cause the itching, that can last for awhile, sadly.

I've never taken Diflucan so I'm not sure how long it takes to start working -- but hang in there. :) In the meantime, if it's unbearable, some over-the-counter YI creams are also quite soothing. Or else inserting plain yogurt with acidophilus cultures -- it's good for treating YIs, and it does wonders for the symptoms as well.

Yay!

Honestly, there is always a possibility it's a different infection than a YI. The important thing to remember is that the chances that it's anything more than a transient infection that can and will be fixed with proper care are very minimal.

I think we're really taught to fear "what can go wrong" with our genitals, which leads to a lot of stress. And it's good to be aware of those things, but in reality -- most of the time, it's going to be awfully similar to getting a sinus infection, or strep throat or something... just on the genitals.

I recently took diflucan for a YI... took about 8-12 hours for the itching to begin to decrease but YMMV... everyone metabolizes things differently.

Hope you feel better!

If it was a one-dose fluconazole tablet you took it takes 2-4 days to start working through your system. If you check the package insert or any instructions on the box it usually says if it hasn't totally cleared within 7 days then it's safe to take another dose to finish the yeast off.

You can also suddenly develop reactions to pads and tampons - scented or unscented - because of the chemicals in them. I've know a few people who have developed sensitivities to them over the years.

i dont think thats a lesion. i have a similar "flap" looking thing which i'm pretty sure is a remnant of my hymen.
