Untreated BV?

vaginapaginaI'm just curious, does anything bad happen if you don't treat BV? The only time I've ever had it, I barely knew anything was wrong. So, if it can go away on it's own, that'd be nice. I realize there are home remedies and such, but there wouldn't be much point for me, if I can barely tell I have an infection in the first place.

Date: 2008-11-29 07:37 pm (UTC)From what I'm seeing -- in sources like the CDC (http://www.cdc.gov/std/PID/STDFact-PID.htm#howget) and the University of Maryland Medical Center (http://www.umm.edu/ency/article/000888.htm) -- it looks like untreated bacterial infections can lead to PID, not necessarily all vaginal infections. For yeast infections, for example, PID is not mentioned as a possible complication (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/MEDLINEPLUS/ency/article/001511.htm#Complications).
