I'm in love with my DivaCup, but I was wondering about cloth pads and the like. Still learning to use my DivaCup, and it can be a lot of work, so it'd be nice to try other things for a break. Also, are the organic cotton pads and tampons much different from the regular ones? Tampons give me insane cramps, and the pads are irritating. They make everything feel raw. Basically looking for something to use as a back up or temp replacement while I'm getting used to my DivaCup.

On a related side note, my body seems to enjoy pushing my cup out, even though it's sealed in there and not leaking. I'm ok while sitting, but when I stand, it'll shift. Next time around I'm going to try turning it inside out, as it may be too long, or I'll be cutting the stem. Haven't decided which one, but does anyone have any other tips that could help? I've tried a few different folds already, and seem to do best with the punch down one.

organic cotton pads and tampons are WAY different. I used to use always pads. Had what I lovingly called swamp crotch. smelled yucky, felt sweaty, just... blech. I now use 7th generation cotton tampons and pads. both are fabulous. my vag is way happier. no swamp crotch. no sweaty feeling.

For a while using organic cotton tampons/pads was a relief over using Always, but after a while they became irritating to me too. I switched to cloth and the DivaCup, but I can only use the cup when I'm at home because it pokes out if I move around :( But it's perfectly comfy when I sit. Anyway. The cloth pads are good because even though they're rather bulkier than the thin pads I used to use, they don't irritate me and I don't have to keep spending money on them.

I have never used a regular cloth pad because regular disposable pads always felt too bulky for me. I bought a number of cloth pads described as "liners" on etsy.com and LOVE them.

They are thick enough for my heaviest day, but do not irritate me.

If you have questions about reusable cloth pads, you may get more of a response from the cloth_pads community (http://community.livejournal.com/cloth_pads/). I prefer cloth pads because they are infinitely gentler on my skin (and they come in fun prints and colors), and I just haven't gotten around to trying a cup yet. Good luck figuring out the Diva!

i use a Diva and ended up cutting the stem entirely off which made a huge difference.

That said, when I bought my diva, there weren't as many cup options as there are now, only the diva and the keeper. The keeper is the UK version, so I went with the Diva, which is typically considered one of the "larger" cups. A friend of mine switched to the mooncup after saying the diva was just too big and she loves it. I think the current smallest cup on the market is the ladycup, but I could be incorrect.

the menstrual_cups community can give you some good recommendations.

I absolutely HATE regular disposable pads, they are a hell-spawned creation, they make my kitty smelly and raw too, but cloth ones when for some reason I can't use a cup are awesome. I made mine actually, it's a great way to recycle old t-shirts and flannel p.j.s, or just about any other soft, absorbent fabric that breathes well, you might find them worth trying.

I've found that reusable pads are so much better than the disposable ones. I don't know how widespread this chain is, but I know Whole Foods carries gladrags, since that's where I got mine.

I cut the stem off and push the cup up as far as it can after it pops open. My problem now is forgetting if it's in or not!
