Nuva Ring

I just got my Nuva Ring at Planned Parenthood, well at the pharmacy, but I had gotten it prescribed there.

I'm terrified of putting it in, I mean... I think it won't go up all the way since I have small hands (lol)

I don't know maybe I'm just paranoid.. Any pointers on inserting it?
& Is it safe using it after You just had token contraception?

I have small hands too, and use NuvaRing with no issues. I found that being in a squatting position (or laying on my back with my legs in the air), helped "suck" the NuvaRing deeper in after I pushed it in as far as I could.

I bear down when I insert it, that helps it gets sucked up further than I can put it in too.

my friend uses an empty tampon applicator. I just use my hands, but you could try that if you can't get it up there just using a finger.

Try twisting it into an "8" shape and then using one finger (index or middle, usually) to push it up all the way.

(And if you think that your hand is too small, try using an empty tampon applicator.)

Getting it out might be a little tricky (it was the first time I used it), but the important thing to remember for that is to relax and use one finger to "hook" around it and pull it out.

I second the 8 shape method.

I'm not sure what you mean by "is it safe using it after you just had token contraception." I'm going to take a stab in the dark here and guess you mean that you have recently taken emergency contraception, aka Plan B?

If that's what you mean, then yes, it is absolutely safe to start hormonal birth control (like the NuvaRing) after taking Plan B.

Secondly -- I'm not a Nuva user, but I can say there's no reason to be terrified. :) It might take some practice at first, but the vagina is not very long (average vaginal depth in its non-aroused state is only a few inches), and you'll figure it out.

If you can or have ever inserted a tampon you can insert a nuva ring. It doesn't have to go *that* far up in there. I fold mine completely into a tinier ring. It's really not scary, I promise!

There isn't really an "enough" except that it can't be dangling out of you (which would be uncomfortable anyway). If it's not uncomfortable, I'd roll with it for now. In fact, this might sound weird, but if you are able to give yourself an orgasm with it in, it might arrange itself deeper in there because of how the vagina expands when a woman is aroused. Sorry if that's embarrassing!

Yup!
I love it too. I hope I never have to switch to something else, haha. It's sooo convenient and 99% of the time I feel absolutely nothing.

It doesn't have to go in very far at all - as long as the whole ring is in your vagina, you're fine. So really, even if your fingers were only one inch long, you would still be able to get it in "far enough."

i am on the second month of my ring, and it takes a little practice to get it in. i found squatting to be the easiest position. it gets slippery after you've been trying for, oh, ten minutes or so :P
once it's up there, though, it's up there.

As long as the whole thing is in your vagina -- meaning there isn't any sticking out your panties or whatever -- it's in just fine. :)
