I'm 19, and have had regular cycles since I was 13. But since January I have had only my period in May, June, and I think July. So it may only be two...

I have gone to the doctor, and she first believed it was my body producing too much estrogen, but with a blood test, this wasn't the case- and they didn't find anything "wrong".

I honestly believe at this point it is stress from school, since in the spring/summer I had my period.

Any advice/recommendations? I'm thinking about getting on the pill just to have a regular flow. Is this a good idea?

Thanks everyone. I'm new.

going on the pill wouldn't hurt to try. but it wouldn't be 100% sure to regulate your period.

Why does it bother you to have only 3 a year? I know girls who would pay for that.

I've never had what most people would consider "normal" cycles. I talked to my doctor about my feelings on the issue, and she was perfectly fine with me having three or four periods in a year. (Still don't know why it happens; wouldn't say I care much, either. Just decided that's how my body wants to work.) I take birth control pills to "regulate" my periods but sometimes it doesn't make me have my period. -- Like the first commenter said, it's not 100% guarantee to work. (If a four months go by, my doctor gives me a supply of Premetrium[progesterone] to get a flow going.)
