condomless sex

Hi everyone,

I've already googled the stats on my situation, so I am feeling pretty ok about it all, but I was just hoping to get a little more feedback from real poeple in the same situation.

I am in a commited relationship and my boyfriend and I have both been tested for STI's and I take a mini pill (progestin only, micronor) for birth control.  About a month ago we decided to stop using condoms.  He has not used condoms in the past when in commited relationships and like I said, he gets tested every six months, however this is a first for me, I had always always used condoms.  So this is a little new for me and I am just feeling a little uneasy.  Not necessarily uneasy enough to use condoms again, because I know to some degree I am just being paranoid.  I was also quite paranoid about pregnancy even when I was using condoms AND birth control, so I think there will always be some level of paranoia for me.

So he always pulls out, and I know that isn't failproof, but with that plus the pill, I should be fine right?  The only thing is we had an oopsie moment and he came inside of me last night.  For some reason I haven't been very successful at reaching orgasm during sex with him, and we both reached it at the same time last night, so yeah, pulling out wasn't on our list of priorities last night, but I don't intend on that happening again as I am a little freaked out by it.

OK sorry to babble so much, but I guess what I am looking for is just other VP'ers that have condomless sex and to get their opinions on it and if one becomes more comfortable with it over time.  By the way, I am an almost perfect pill user, I take it to the minute every day (which is very important with the mini pill).  The latest I have ever been when having sex was 15 minutes and I read that it is not considered late enough to use back up protection until 3 hours.  Thanks!

You should be safe from pregnancy, since you take the pill so well. If you want to be a little more paranoid, you can also look into things like contraceptive sponges (e.g., www.todaysponge.com, the only brand I know of in the US).

i'm on micronor as well, and in the past i was on nuva ring. the total time i've been on bc being about 5 years now. only one baby scare, which turned out negative on the test i took (and i was only scared because i had just started micronor and my cycles went all wonky-like).
never used pull out method.... not for a bc purpose anyway.
and i'm still baby free!

i think that you're being smartly conscientious about this.... and it is normal to be "paranoid", but as long as you keep taking your pill well you should be fine!

I have been on the pill for 6 and a half years and having condomless sex for 5 1/2 with the same man, and no baby in sight! No scares either. As long as you take your pill perfectly, you should be fine.

Given your pill-taking habits, it sounds like you're more than covered... even without adding withdrawal to the mix (which, by the way, has a 96& success rate (http://www.vaginapagina.com/index.php?title=Non-Hormonal_Birth_Control#The_Withdrawal_.28Pull-Out.29_Method) when used perfectly).

On the pill from ages 16 to 18 and from 18 til now (21) I've used the NuvaRing. Primarily condomless sex (and no pulling out) the whole time with zero babies and zero scares!

As long as you're taking the pill correctly, you're fine!

I've been on some form of birth control for the better part of 2 1/2 years now, have been in a committed relationship the whole time, and have only had sex with a condom maybe... three times. There was a pregnancy, but that was my fault because I was horrible at remembering to take my pill (slept through the alarm almost constantly on weekends), then I went on the patch, which was too expensive, and now I'm on the Nuvaring, and it's all working just peachy =D The only thing that occasionally squicks me out is the leakage caused by him ejaculating inside me, haha. You should be just fine =]

I've been on the pill only for a year and a half after my long term boyfriend and I got really sick of condoms (they rub me raw, it sucks). No baby to speak of, hah. I'm not the best at remember to take it on time, but I almost always get it within two and a half hours although it supposedly needs to be taken within one hour of when you took your last one. I take it at night (I would never remember to take it in the morning, I sleep in too late on weekends) and I forget one until the next morning every couple of months. So far, so good.
