Question: How do you know if you have genital warts? My partner found out a few months ago they had them (around their bottom area, not the vagina). As soon as I was told I got tested and it came back negative. My partner has been treated, and, there haven't been any noticeable outbreaks since (yes, I know, once you have the virus you always do). But lately, even though my first test was negative, I've been having some irritability and itching/burning. But there aren't any bumps or stinging. And it's not all the time. Any suggestions? I have a DR appointment in a few weeks, but I didn't know if I should get it pushed up sooner. Thanks!

condyloma (genital warts) are diagnosed only via visual inspection, though they can be confirmed via biopsy if the health care provider is unsure. your lack of lumps/bumps/lesions is a positive sign, but it can be very difficult to inspect yourself, and you're not trained to diagnose them, so my advice would be to sit tight and wait for your appt, unless you're uncomfortable (itching and burning? yipes!) and want to be seen sooner.

I'd just like to supplement all this good stuff with a link to our handy Vulvapedia article on HPV:
