hey loves!

have any of you worked at Planned Parenthood, particularly as a Health Center Assistant? Did you like it? What (approx.) is the starting pay?

I'm hoping to grab a part time (20 hr/wk) position I sawv available on the website--I'll be going in to drop off my application and show my smiling, eager face on Monday. Any details and suggestions would be awesome.

I'm excited to do something in the reproductive health field (just graduated a few months ago, currently working at Whole Foods) and PP seems like such a great start.

Love to hear your thoughts!

Since it's a federation I don't think pay rates are the same from center to center. I do know it's non-profit & those tend to pay fairly low. But if your heart's in it, it's definitely worth it. Also as you mentioned it's a great place to start b/c it's a really valuable experience! I volunteer there & I love it.

IAWTC. I also add that Whole Foods pays fairly well, so you may be in for a paycut.

Have never worked for PP, but I did work for a womens/sexual health clinic with a similar mission and population, and now work in private medicine doing much the same work. I adore it. It's like living VP, fulltime. The work can be really, really challenging (ever tell someone she has herpes? is pregnant unexpectedly? has HIV? I have. it all kind of sucks), but it's so important and worthwhile, and you can really, really make a difference in individual people's lives.

I work for PP as an RHCA!

I LOVE my job. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It sucks the absolute life out of me sometimes, but I still love it. The pay is okay, you won't get rich here but most of us working at PP are in it because we believe in the mission.

As a center assistant I do whatever is asked of me. Somedays are spent in clinic counseling patients and prepping them for their exams, other days are spent at the desk area checking patients in and out. Every center may work differently, but in my clinic we rotate jobs and help out whever we are needed. I love the clinic I work in, and I love the people I work with. The patients can be great- but believe me you will have your good days and your bad days but that's at any job.

Feel free to ask me any questions I'd love to help. I'm sure your interview will go great.
