I need reassurance from anyone else who has experience any bleeding after taking the morning after pill.

I grudgingly took it ('Levonelle', I live in the UK) two weekends ago because the condom broke and we didn't notice in time.  I took it about 16 hours after the incident. The pharmacist in Boots said I had a low risk of pregnancy anyway as my period only finished the thursday before and I hadn't yet ovulated, but I need reassurance that other people have experienced bleeding in the middle of their cycle after taking it.

The side effects all mention that some people experience 'spotting' after taking it but I had two days of proper bleeding (like i'd started my period) and breast tenderness exactly a week after. And all during this week I think I've been near ovulation (I can tell from the cervical fluid) yet there had still been a bit of pinkish blood occasionally, and some darker blood today. When I type this out it seems like I'm being paranoid but I'm just wondering if anyone else had experienced this and also how much did it change the timing of your next proper period?

I seem to be ovulating a few days after I normally do so presumably the same thing will happen to my period. I took it before, about three years ago, but I don't remember having this amount of bleeding afterwards. Actually, I don't remember having any - maybe the time in your cycle that you take it alters that..

Thanks to anyone who replies x x

I believe I had spotting 12-14 days after I took the morning after pill and we were freaking (not knowing if I was preg or if it was spotting). But it turned out to just be spotting for me and it restarted my cycle all-together.

Hope that helps some?

I agree, the morning after pill and the subsequent bleeding started my cycle again. I had my next period about a month later.

That seems a bit odd that the pharmacist would tell you that you are probably not ovulating. Everyone is different, and I know that I ovulate fairly soon after my period is over. I actually did get pregnant from sex on a weekend, and my period had finished around a Thursday. Anyhow, I am glad you got the pill.

When I took it (and it was not the time I got pregnant), I did start to bleed a couple days after. I cannot remember the length, but I have fairly short periods, and I remember thinking it was a period. It is probably more like a withdrawal bleed as when you go onto placebo week on hormonal birth control. My next period was normal.

My friend had taken the morning after pill and told me what to expect the time I did. She also had her period/ withdrawal bleed a few days after taking it.

Hope this helps :)

When I took EC, I had spotting a about ten days later. It started brownish and very light. That kind of tapered off, and suddenly I started to bleed again. I was really worried, because I thought the brownish-light stuff WAS my period. Then I realized this was when I was expecting my period in the first place. So I kind of had 1 and 1/2 periods.
Anyway, good luck. I know how worried I was when in your shoes.
