Underwear.

I'm a size 10 in pants. What size underwear should I be?

I don't understand underwear/panty sizing at all. I usually get a size 7, sometimes a 5, but anything above a 7 or 8 is so baggy and big on me! With s-m-l sizing I usually go for a medium - the smalls are generally way way too teenie and the larges… well I could fit another half of me in them!

You would think that by the ripe age of 21 I'd know how underwear sizing works… but alas, I don't. Any tips?

I know the brand I wear, Jockey, has a measurement chart on each package with all sizes/measurements they offer...

I wear a size 18 and my underwear is a 7 or L depending on where I shop. VS I wear a L and Hanes a 7, just for example. So I think you wear probably a s/m and a 5 or smaller.

I agree. I wear a 6 or 7 and I'm a size 13/14 when not-pregnant (but I'm normally all booty/thighs).

I wish I knew! I tend to be a 7, and I'm a 10/12 in pants. I have enormous hips, though. I know my measurements, but the panties I usually buy don't have measurements on them. I just kind of go trial-and-error and when I find some that fit perfectly I just buy a ton of them. And I'm almost 28, so nothing to be ashamed about!

I don't think there is a way it works, lol. I tend to be about an 8...anything smaller cuts off circulation to my hips, lol. Problem is, most sizes that fit my hips are big/long in the crotch area. I don't get it either.

I'm almost 20...don't worry, lol.

Probably a 7, but it might depend on the brand. I wear size 8 pants and both 6 and 7 in underwear usually fit me; the 6s are a smooth, close fit and the 7s are looser, but not to the point of being too big.

Its like any kind of sizing, I find. Nothing is consistent unless you try to stick with one brand. If you find a brand that fits well, then by all means...stick with it!

Sometimes underwear packages will show size charts on the back. So do nylons, so perhaps you could use one of those charts as a reference?

Get out a tape measure, and actually measure yourself! I know people say to meausre your hips, but that's actually where the widest part of your bum/thoughs are, and when I measure there, I find that I tend to get saggy panties! lol I find that measuring where my hips bones are provides a better fit, YMMV.
Regardless, by taking a measurement or two, you'll know what size you should get when picking up a new pair. And yes, even though things are listed in inches, there is vanity sizing in panties, too, so different brands will fit differently, in spite of being the same size. >_<
And, please remember, there is no "you *should* be this size!" (According to fashion magazines, we should all be a size 0, after all...) You are how you are, and as long as you are healthy and happy with that, who cares what arbitrary number some label slaps on the clothes you wear?

...and that would be bum/thighs, not thoughs... LOL

It really varies a lot more than your pants size, based on your shape. I'm generally a 2/3 in pants, but generally wear a 5 or a medium in panties from like, Target cuz I've got a big ol' horseback riding butt and thighs. :) But then, in Victoria's Secret I'm an extra small, and in undies from boutiques I can be just about any size under the sun. I don't think it's really standardized.

When shopping at Victoria Secret a sales associate showed me a pretty cool trick. I don't know if this would work on everyone, but it definitely works on me. You take the top part of the undwear and wrap it around your neck like a cape, and if it touches perfectly, then it should fit great, but if over laps then it's too big, and if it doesn't meet then it's too small, etc. This may not work if you are looking at panties in a package...

I'm totally trying it next time I go to buy underwear... just to watch how people react. ;)

I don't think theres really any kind of system for it, regardless of those silly measurements they put on the back of packaged undies. I wear good old fashioned Hanes panties. I'm a size 20ish in pants and I wear a 7 in undies and they're a bit big. Which has never made since to me, since a 7 is technically a large, I believe, and I'm like a XXL. So yeah. I say just keep trying different sizes and styles, eventually one will work :)

Well, I don't know how sizing actually works, but I wear a 4 or 5 or 6 in pants (depending on the brand; gotta love women's clothing), and I wear an underwear size of 3 or 5. So for me, it seems that my underwear size is between 1 and 2 sizes smaller than pants size.

What I do is just find a favorite brand and type of underwear I like and stick with it. I hate always guessing whether a pair will fit and worrying whether I'll waste money. :(

Last time I bought hanes and jockey they had a size chart on the back of them. Jockey.com has a complete size chart and measuring guide!

I'm a size 10 as well and wear 6s, though I do think I found one 5 that fit me one time. 7s are massive on me! I'm 5'4" and kind of a mix between hourglass and pear-shaped in terms of my body shape. I'm slightly bigger on the bottom but not by very much.

haha underwear.. im a size 5-7 depending.. sometimes even 5 is big..sometimes my booty falls out of them.. maybe my booty has graduated to a 6/M ????ehh this is why most of my underwear is like 6 years old. lol

I have such bad luck with undies!!! I buy the ones in the 6 pack because i'm cheap, and if I get ones that fit my hips, they are really baggy around my butt/crotch. If i buy some that fit my crotch, they squeeze my hips. It is horribly depressing.

Good luck finding the right size!!

I adore my Jockeys. They have a sizing chart on the box, though I haven't used it in years since the style and fit I wear hasn't changed in years. I'm a 5 in Jockeys, wear size 12 pants, and a medium at Victoria's Secret. It's probably different between brands, and probably between different styles of the same brand. (Women's sizes are so much more annoying. Give me real numbers in inches, please!) (The most wonderful thing about the Jockeys, besides comfy-ness, is being able to go into the store, flip through the boxes to find the (color-coded!) 5's in the style I like, grab some in non-pink colors, and have them paid for and be on my way in 5 minutes.) So my tip would be to find a brand/style you like, try on or measure to find your size, and then only get those from then on. Heh.

I hate shopping for panties. I can't find my size in any of the packaged brands. I usually just buy JCPennys' Delicates juniors' boyshorts, and found I can fit into a small or medium pretty well.

And I'm really not *that* small. It's confusing.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm 20 and don't get it either. I just buy some and hope. :D

I also really like those new Hanes super-stretchy ones. I forget what they're called, but it doesn't really matter what size you buy (there may even only BE one size), because they stretch out clear to kingdom come.

Like most women's clothing sizes, I don't find it makes much sense. I wear small, medium and size 5-8 panties depending on the brand.

women's clothing sizes are not related to any measuring system and it pisses me off. size 14 does not mean 14 of anything at all. it means 14 as much as "orange" means 14.
