follicles?

sooo i went for a gyno check-up yesterday. And she told me that everything was pretty much fine. Except that I have too many follicles in my left ovary. She sorta felt it.. and then the ultrasound machine showed it.

I'm very regular in my periods, with the exception of being a few days off every few months. She was surprised when I said that. Apparently lots of follicles is usually a symptom of irregular periods? She told me that as long as I'm regular its nothing to worry about, and didn't say much more because she said she had to run to fix someone's abcess or something.

But I just wanted to check with you guys. Is it something I should be concerned with at all?

Apparently the follicles grow and shrink during the course of your cycle, and it's totally normal to have them. I think you can even tell which side you'll be ovulating from on an ultrasound based on the size.

Anyway, I don't know much about them save for that I've got them too, and they're not bothering me at all. :)

did she happen to mention how many follies were too many? i've heard, during the course of fertility treatments, that some women have hundreds of follies on each side. The growing follies show that your eggs are maturing, and they are different sizes during the course of your cycle. Have you had your hormone levels checked? I wonder if it's possible to have naturally over-stimulated ovaries and release like, tons of eggs during a cycle? not sure about that. That's the only thing i can think of that may be a problem for you later. i would call and ask for clarification. you sure they weren't cysts? i didn't even know a dr could 'feel' follies.

well she didn't really feel the *follicles*. But when she was focusing on that side she sorta muttered "ovary" to herself and then elaborated when she got the ultrasound thingy a minute later. Apparently that ovary felt fuller or something?

I didnt have hormone levels checked. And she didn't say cysts - I'd prolly have been a bit more worried if she did. She definitely said follicles and pointed out the dark spots on the ultrasound machine screen. she did say it was nothing to worry about as long as I'm regular. *shrug*
