So I've always wondered what other menstruating women do to avoid getting blood on their sheets/mattresses when they're sleeping. Personally, I'm a pad kind of girl, but man do they do an awful job when I'm sleeping! Ruined pj bottoms and suspiciously spotted sheets have taught me to sleep on a towel when I have or am expecting my period... but that's still a pain because a) I'm a picky sleeper and the towel is sometimes uncomfortable and b) I still end up with blood stains, just on my towels. I guess I should just invest in a really dark towel...

I'm mostly just curious what other women do - some of the girls here must have clever ways of dealing with this. :) Do you just sleep with a tampon in, or a menstrual cup? Hmmm.

On my heaviest days/nights I back my Diva Cup up with cloth pads. On my lighter days/nights it's just my cup.

I always wear cloth pads along with my cup overnight and I've never had a leak. But before I used either of those, I wore tampons and pads overnight and didn't leak... I've never been able to use just a pad. I envy people who can!

I just ordered a menstrual cup, hopefully that will work. But when I wear overnights, they usually keep me stain-free. The supers don't extend as far back and will leave me with stains in the butt part of my panties.

Hmmm, everyone else seems to be recommending menstrual cups, but you say that you're a pad user...I am too, for the most part, and what I've done in the past is wear my pad of choice like usual, and then sort've position two pantiliners behind it. This increases the length, and offers coverage width-wise as well behind the actual pad. I've never had a leak so heavy back there that it bled through the thinner pantiliner, so maybe try that if your leakage occurs behind the pad.

I use tampons, and I don't really have an issue with this. I'm just always sure to put a fresh tampon in right before bed-and even on my heaviest days it's not an issue.

*nod* i do that. i usually don't sleep for more than 8 hrs, and if i do i get up in the middle of the night to pee anyway so i change it then. works just fine.

I only ever use pads, and I don't usually have a problem at night time if I wear a night time pad.

I use a tampon to sleep with and I also have a specific set of old sweatpants that I wear and wash daily if there is any leakage. It usually won't go through both.

ever since i stopped using pads and switched to tampons several years ago, i've had any leakage problems at night. i also recently started using a diva cup, but during heavy flow nights i still use a tampon. no complains here. if it's a SUPER heavy night, i use a tampon and a panty-liner that i move toward the back of my underwear instead of right in the crotch.

I'm a cup user now, but when I wore pads I always leaked unless I slept on my stomach, legs together. That was the only safe position for me.

i wear a tampon and never have any problems.
however, i used to wear pads & slept in a really super long pad that basically covered my butt so that no blood would leak onto the bed in the horizontal position.

I refuse to use tampons before going to bed, because one of the major ways one gets TSS is by accidently putting two tampons in at once and I feel like if I put one in before bed I could forget it was there and then i'd have a big problem.

I prefer pads as well. I use this super big cloth menstral pad I have and that usually helps. It has two smaller pads under it and wraps around my undies so there's never really a problem.

Well we got all sorts of pads as I used to be a heavy bleeder, I needed some time going through all of the various designed for heavy bleeding and finally found two that were helpful (sorry forgot the excact name of the product)

And I just can't handle tampons - I was supposed to use them when we had swimming class - but after half an hour they leaked through - *yiki* and as I am almost "excerising" as much in my sleep I never tried those.

Now I have to google what a menstrual cup is ...

I use pads, so I use the overnight pads. They usually work like a charm (although sometimes I have to change it at 6am or something).

I always found that I barely ever bled during the night when I used a pad, but as soon as I'd stand up - WHOOSH, blood everywhere.

I use a Diva cup and a backup pad, because I'm paranoid. I haven't had any trouble since I've been using the Diva. Its very liberating to be able to sleep however I want and wake up with clean sheets.

I have a light bleeding, so I use nothing and sleep naked like I do the rest of the month.

Diva Cup with backup cloth pad. If my flow is particularly heavy, I'll put a towel down on my bed and/or stuff an old sock in the back part of my underwear because if I leak I tend to do so through the butt area of my pants.

When I was a pad kind of girl, I used super overnights plus I slept on a towel.
I found when I started using an Instead cup, my need for the towel ceased.

cloth pads like these: http://hyenacart.com/HomemadeMama/index.php?c=27&p=29273
look awesome for heavy flow at night. I've tried her products & like them a lot. She is out of stock but re-stocks frequently.

I put on a super pad, then a pantyliner at either end of it (I shift around a lot in my sleep, so this is where I usually leak), and then put snug PJ shorts on top of the whole thing.

Overkill, yes, but I leak like a mofo, and I can't use any internal stuff... :(

I use tampons now that my flow isn't as bad as it used to be.

Back when I was a pad girl I used to have to wear overnight pads during the day for school. Thank god for uniforms so no one saw the huge bunch in the back.

But, what I used to do was use an overnight pad, & a pantyliner wherever I got leaks. I sleep on my stomach, so the whole front part of my crotch would be soaked when I got up, so I put the overnight pad more towards the front & a panty liner in the back. I also would have my period panties be my tightest panties. Not cute ones, or thongs, but a tight bikini one. I shift, so it helped a lot. Also I avoided wearing pants to bed, I'd wear black shorts so that they wouldn't stain too much.

& if you don't shower in the morning like I don't because of lack of time, Summer's Eve wipes are amazing for a quick clean up in the morning. Everyone knows how annoying it is to have dried blood in places that blood isn't coming out of!

I use cloth pads. You wouldn't think there much diferent in the coverage thing. but for me they have never leaked overnight. Because with regular pads no matter what they would seem to leak over the edge or the pad would fold over.

I seriously force myself to sleep on my stomach, because if I'm on my back or my side, I ALWAYS leak. I'm a pad girl, too. I'll never use anything else.

how does sleeping on your stomach make you not leak?

I use tampons and change them out before bed, and this prevents stains, unless my period starts in the middle of the night.
