Hello ladies!

I've skimmed through the archives trying to find an answer to this, but have had no luck.

I'm finishing up a double course of antibiotics, one round for strep throat, which lead to a yeast infection that I treated with fluconazole. Then, somehow, I ended up with a UTI, which lead to another round of antibiotics when the normal routine of flushing my system with cranberry/blueberry extracts and mass amounts of water didn't work. I was eating a lot of live culture yogurt during the second round of antibiotics, trying to stave off the inevitable YI that was bound to follow. It didn't quite work, because I still started getting mild symptoms. So I decided to go straight to the source, and got some acidophilus capsules to insert.

My questions - for those of you who have used this method, how many capsules did you insert at a time, how many times a day, and for how long? And how far up? I've gotten the little buggers as far up as I can just using my fingers; will the treatment 'spread' as my body rebalances herself?

Thanks so much!

what i usually do is get some plain yogurt and mix that with liberal amounts of acidophilus powder. then, i use a baby medicine syringe to insert it (a la over the counter YI treatments). i usually only do it at night because of the possibility for leaking, but i imagine you could do it a bit more often.

I'm so glad you asked this question!! I was just about to ask it myself. I'm on antibiotics for at least 30 days thanks to lyme's disease, and since I've got IR too, I got thrush AND a vaginal yeast infection a couple days into treatment. I have wafers for the thrush, but didn't want to have to spend $100 on monistat in the next month or two. I decided to try acidophilus capsules, one orally per day and also inserting vaginally.
The best I could find in the memories was one or two capsules (depending on severity) inserted at bedtime. I couldn't find anything specific about doing it longterm, so I look forward to the answers to your question! I hope you feel better!

When i use acidophilus to stave off a YI or help one go away, i usually take what the bottle says orally, and then at night put 1 or 2 capsules in my vagina. I find they dissolve the best and have the most effect when worn at night because then gravity is not working against you. If you do use them during the day i'd suggest wearing a thin pad of some sort so your underwear doesn't get all crusty with the discharge. I also usually do the acidopilus thing till i notice an improvement, which could be in 3 days or it could be a week, it really depends on the severity of the YI/how uncomfortable i am.
I've also found that drinking a lot more water in a day helps, and also if you can get another Fluconazole i'd do that, it can be the miracle drug sometimes.

I've never used them as a suppository, but when I started BC again a few months ago, and of course started getting a yeast infection, I took four or five the evening of the first day that was really itchy. And, seriously, within half an hour it wasn't driving me crazy anymore. I then went back down to the daily recommended dose. I know it's not quite what you were asking, but it worked for me.
