EC and BC

Tonight I took three of my birth control pills and plan on taking three more tomorrow instead of paying tons of money for EC. My question is, do I continue taking my BC normally or should I wait for my period to come and then start taking them again?

EDIT: I just did some further research online and saw that YAZ is not effective as EC. Is there anyone in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area that can tell me the easiest way to get some EC. Thanks!

You should maybe call a doctor. Birth control pills are not meant to be taken like that.

just a friendly fyi:

actually, some can be, but just the ones containing levonorgestrel.
here's a handy list (http://ec.princeton.edu/questions/dose.html#dose).

Some can be. My doctor said that if EC pills are not available the woman is given 2 BC pills that does the same job. I did that once before and took 2 of my Tri Cyclen pills.

yeah..

your profile says you're 18+ so you should be able to just get it in any pharmacy, since it is over the counter now.

and i'd call poison control to make sure taking three yaz pills won't fuck you up.

i think so.

i haven't worked pharmacy in a long time or tried to get ec though so i'm not 100% sure how it works. but i think it'd be like the pseudoephedrine crap, you go, ask, show id, and sign a log and then it's yours.

I just went to my local Walgreens, walked up to the pharmacy and asked for it. They'll just need a photo ID to prove your over 18 and it's about $43.

It says costs vary widely, so I couldn't give you an answer really. I suppose just calling them and asking would be best.

They were giving ec away for free not too long ago.

Probably - call and ask. At ours, in Florida, it's $30.

At a clinic near my house (not specifically Planned Parenthood, though) they have EC for $15.

Were you taking the pills out of your current pack?

For what it's worth -- you need to take at least 21 days of pills in a row to remain protected during your placebo week. So if you've taken a bunch today (and even if you take EC tomorrow), your protection may be compromised during your next placebo week.

To ensure continuous protection, you can "stack" your Yaz by starting your next pack immediately after finishing your current one, or else you can use back-up protection (like condoms) until you've taken seven active pills from the next pack.

Do you take Yaz regularly? What makes you concerned and feeling you need EC?

If you do need EC, you can obtain it at any pharmacy. Costs do vary, clinics may be cheaper than pharmacies but as EC is very time-sensitive, I would recommend getting it as quickly as possible from whatever source is easiest for you.

You won't need EC for that - it just puts you at typical use statistics rather than perfect use.

It sounds like your risk of pregnancy is extremely low.

1½ hours late isn't very late. I don't think it even comes under what would be considered "late". I think that's anywhere from 3 hours or more.
I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Hey--I dunno where you are in DFW, but I grew up in Euless (HEB) and I know that the Walgreens there has it... but of course, I think pretty much any of the pharmacies up there will have it.

It may be more expensive than PP, but I think the convenience of just running up there and grabbing it to make sure you take it in plenty of time is worth the couple extra bucks without having to research online to find the clinic and all that... but that's just me.

Best of luck :)

Yeah, that's exactly how I felt when I had to take it! Good luck!

Oh, and I went to UTA for my bachelor's degree, hooray DFW people :)

If you're on BC, why do you need EC? The BC pills will protect you from pregnancy.
