Okay, I have been looking at the Everyday Bodies Project, so I know that I'm not the only one like this. The thing is that I have hair on the inside of my outer labia... not super far in, but when I 'open' up my lips there is hair on the inside along the edges. I don't often shave, but when I do, I never shave this hair on the inside because it's just not possible to really navigate that area without nicking myself. It's also a super sensitive area and prone to breakouts when I shave. I don't know how I could really get around all my crevices to get to all the hair. I've seen lots of photos of vulvas in EBP with the hair completely gone. How do you manage this? Do you just not have hair in the inner areas in the first place? Should I give up on this idea of smoothness? It doesn't bother me at all to be hairy, but sometimes I just feel like changing it up a little.

anyway! when it comes to shaving, its just kind of an art you have to master. haha. i kind of grab an inner labia and gently pull it to the other side so i can glide the razor over that area without cutting anything. its hard to explain but it can be done. :)

Date: 2007-05-07 07:13 am (UTC)it makes blades SUPER gunked up quickly so you have to rinse a lot...but it helps with a smooth shave. it is not as GREAT as the promise, but for only a few bucks at walmart i picked some up and gave it a try...it makes it easier to SEE down there since it doesn't foam up at all. honestly, i shave my outer lips and mons/all other outer areas with shaving gel or shave secret...and moist shave the curve and inside of my outer lips with little to no product. once the shower has cleaned and hydrated my skin, it's not too bad. plus, the irritation will fade as your skin gets used to the shaving. bikinizone makes an aftershave product for that area which seems good, and other women have suggested teatree oil or aloe vera.

Date: 2007-05-07 11:18 pm (UTC)I'm a big fan of your basic pull-n-shave technique: using two fingers, I spread a small area of my inner-outer labia tight and flat, and shave it like that. Then I just move on down until it's all shaved. By keeping the labia pulled taut and flat between my fingers, I virtually eliminate cuts and nicks.
