Okay, I have been looking at the Everyday Bodies Project, so I know that I'm not the only one like this. The thing is that I have hair on the inside of my outer labia... not super far in, but when I 'open' up my lips there is hair on the inside along the edges. I don't often shave, but when I do, I never shave this hair on the inside because it's just not possible to really navigate that area without nicking myself. It's also a super sensitive area and prone to breakouts when I shave. I don't know how I could really get around all my crevices to get to all the hair. I've seen lots of photos of vulvas in EBP with the hair completely gone. How do you manage this? Do you just not have hair in the inner areas in the first place? Should I give up on this idea of smoothness? It doesn't bother me at all to be hairy, but sometimes I just feel like changing it up a little.

I shave it. I use the bikini razors by Noxema. They're really tiny so they can fit in those hard to shave areas.

i know what you're talking about.
ive always assumed that everyone's hair grows that way, but i dont know.
anyway! when it comes to shaving, its just kind of an art you have to master. haha. i kind of grab an inner labia and gently pull it to the other side so i can glide the razor over that area without cutting anything. its hard to explain but it can be done. :)

This is what I do as well! I don't think I've ever knicked my vulva while shaving, though I knick the hell out of my legs.

P.S.- I love your icon, [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com].

I use the Noxzema Bikini Shavers on my inner labia, they work great and I've never nicked myself.

I know what you are talking about and I do like [livejournal.com profile] six58 said... I use my free hand to pull the skin taunt (like... flatten it out if that makes sense) so I can easily glide the razor across it. I USUALLY shave when taking a bath because its just easier for me... plus it feels like I am pampering myself more, but occasionally (like tonight in fact) I do it taking a shower. It mostly makes balance and some flexibility.

And FWIW, I use the Shick razor that has the protective wires over the blade. Yes, you can definitely still knick yourself with them (my ankles have the scars to prove it!) but I have noticed I don't have to be QUITE as careful. It is definitely more forgiving.

I just shave there anyway. It helps that I have very small labia minora, so I don't have to worry much about nicking them. But I do have to shave kind of on the inner side of my labia majora, and I've noticed that the hair grows at a different angle there (straight back towards my perineum, as opposed to outwards towards my thighs). It does take balance and patience, but it's not the hardest part of shaving for me. That would be the lower mons--that's ALWAYS where I nick myself, because it's got the thickest layer of fatty tissue and is therefore hardest to get a close shave, and besides the hair there is thickest and the skin the most sensitive.

actually i find because of the shape/angle of the noxema blades, i get more nicks from those it seems in strangely textured or tight areas, like my outer lips where they meet atop the clit....but they tend to be okay in other areas. so, i use a combination of a venus razor and a noxema bikini shaver. i have nicked myself a few times, but it's not that bad. i shave it all, just pulling the lips out and open, and smooth so i can access the area easily. often doing it during/after a shower or bath is helpful. when i first started, i had to crouch in front of a mirror to shave...but now actually i just do it all in the shower. if you don't like using gels or cremes, may i suggest shave secret....(shavesecret.com)

it makes blades SUPER gunked up quickly so you have to rinse a lot...but it helps with a smooth shave. it is not as GREAT as the promise, but for only a few bucks at walmart i picked some up and gave it a try...it makes it easier to SEE down there since it doesn't foam up at all. honestly, i shave my outer lips and mons/all other outer areas with shaving gel or shave secret...and moist shave the curve and inside of my outer lips with little to no product. once the shower has cleaned and hydrated my skin, it's not too bad. plus, the irritation will fade as your skin gets used to the shaving. bikinizone makes an aftershave product for that area which seems good, and other women have suggested teatree oil or aloe vera.

I really can't shave my vulva with a razor without getting razor bumps. I've tried bikini zone, scrubbing with a loofah, all sorts of oils and creams, different razors; it just wasn't happening. Now I use an electric bikini trimmer, which also makes shaving the sides of my labia less scary. I usually shave my vulva standing up, with one leg propped up on the toilet or the sink so that I can stretch the labia enough to increase the surface area/resistance and I can usually see enough to guide the razor in the right direction. It's taken some practice, but it's a fairly quick process now. I really like having the hair on my outer labia shaved because it's more "easy access" to the clit, and it feels, to me, like my vagina can breathe better. :)

Oh, I have tons of hair on my inner-outer labia, and on the outer-inner labia as well, heh. My labia are also fairly meaty, so I sympathize with the nicking issue.

I'm a big fan of your basic pull-n-shave technique: using two fingers, I spread a small area of my inner-outer labia tight and flat, and shave it like that. Then I just move on down until it's all shaved. By keeping the labia pulled taut and flat between my fingers, I virtually eliminate cuts and nicks.

I use my fiance's electric razor to shave my girly parts. It has this part that flips out and just has one jagged blade across it and it's like a half inch in width so it's small enough. I can't get the hair completely gone, but it gets a lot more than I can get with a regular razor, and it hurts a LOT less.
