I'm a Canadian in England and next month, I'll need to take a visit to the local walk-in clinic and get a new birth control prescription.  Can anybody tell me roughly how much money I'll be spending on my birth control prescription, or point me towards a resource that details information like pricing?  (Historically, I've been using Alesse, if that's useful at all)

You won't have to pay - all BC is government subsidised. YAY!

I'm Irish, and when I lived in the UK, my BC was free.

Of course, nobody told me this. So off I went to the pharmacy, got my BC off the pharmacist, and then was a bit shocked when he turned around and went off to do something else, while I was getting my wallet out.

I just double checked it - some things you do have to pay for, but never BC/Family Planning stuff.

Linky (http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/family_parent/health/nhs_charges_for_people_from_abroad.htm).

And even if you're coming over on a work visa, that should be fine. It seems you would be entitled to free care for everything (depending on the length of your visa). I guess it's because you're contributing to the system.

If you're in the UK legally, you should be eligible for the NHS. When I lived in the UK on a student visa, they covered me. Of course, that was awhile ago, and things might have changed.

they won't even ask you where you're from. It's no struggle to get BC out of the clinics in England, they're only too happy to give it to you. i don't think you'll have any problems.

[u}ALL[/u] birth control is free under the NHS regardless of whether you are a national or here under any other means.

Lets face it it is the idea that birth control is cheaper ythan dealig with a kid or abortion costs.
