So I posted a while back about my ugly yeast beast and my desire to switch types of b.c. to get rid of the underlying cause of the infection. Meanwhile, I decided to try gentian violet to get rid of my current yeast infection. I used it three nights in a row and after the third night, my vagina turned into a throbbing mass of pain! Seriously, I have never felt burning like this before. The entire inside of my vagina, including inner/ outer labia are red and raw and burning like ARGH! My insurance is teh suck so tomorrow I'm off to planned parenthood to see if they can cut this ball of pain out of my flesh... or more realistically tell me what the hell is wrong with me. In the meantime, anyone have this reaction to gentian violet? There's no warning on the bottle or anything... also, are there any sort of skin soothing, burn relieving things I can put on my vag to make the pain subside at least a little? I've taken some ibuprofen but that's much too indirect for my liking right now.

My vagina thanks you.

Oh no! That's awful! It's possible you're allergic. I've only had good experiences with GV, and I have also done three treatments before (no more than that). May I ask how you applied it and what concentration it is? It should say on the bottle whether it's 1,2, 3%, etc.

I'm not sure what you can do! I'm not sure douching is a good idea, but maybe use a little water and your finger to try and get most of it out of your vagina? Absolutely no soap! Wear your underwear and maybe hold some ice to your vulva over that?

Usually 1% is recommended. You probably should dilute it.

Maybe the 2% was just too much for you, especially after three treatments (a lot of people only need one treatment). I've only used 1%. If you decide to use it again (and you probably won't for fear of reaction I assume) dilute it 50/50 with water and see if that helps. Hope you feel better soon!

Yogurt. Plain, cool, full-fat, no sugar yogurt. It's very soothing.
