Hi, My name is Ashley. I have a couple of questions. First of all, i have very irregular periods (they come once every 3-4 months). My fiance and i have been trying to concieve for a while now, and we read online that there may be a possibility to use herbal vitamins as a "helping hand" so to speak. After doing some research on these vitamins i went and purhcased Red Clover, and Evening Primrose Capsules.

I dont really think my family doctor will help me with this subject, hes very harsh, and rude to everyone in my family that sees him. I've already asked him to refer me to a doctor to help me with these things, but he seems to think that since he is my family doctor i dont need to see anyone else.

Does anyone on here have anything good to say about these vitamins? Would you recommend that i try something else? anything anyone can tell me about stregnthining my chances of concieveing?

Seriously find a new doctor. If he won't do it for you, do it yourself.

I second this. What good is a doctor if he's too rude to see?

Ugh. Get a new doctor. Also tell him to get a new job.

While there are many herbs that can be good for women's health, and trying to concieve (red clover, evening primrose, and chasteberry are among them) the irregular cycles may indicate other health problems that can impair your fertility, or cause problems with pregnancy, like polycystic ovaries or thyroid problems.

If you haven't already read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler, I'd recommend it. I'd also recommend charting your cycles for a few months, to see if you're having ovulatory cycles, and to see what patterns your cycles might have. Once you have this information, it may help a doctor or health care provider to determine whether there's a problem and how to treat it.

If you're having trouble getting the care you need from this doctor, you may want to look and see if there are any other doctors available near you to follow up with, or who might be willing to refer you to a gynecologist who can investigate further the cause (and effect) of your irregular cycles.

I know how frustrating it is to want to get pregnant and for it not to happen. I hope you can figure out what's going on soon, and continue with your ttc journey.

I second everybody who's said find a new doctor. An ob/gyn or someone who specializes in fertility would be your best bet. Herbs and vitamins can do amazing things, but using them without real, substantail medical advice could be very very dangerous. A lot of people think that because something's "natural" or "herbal" it can't be that serious, but accidently misusing herbs and all that could be extremely damaging.

Red clover and evening primrose are herbs, not vitamins. They're not likely to cause much harm, but I don't see how they'd help you conceive, either, especially if you're not working to correct some sort of identified imbalance.

If you're interested in natural methods to help with infertility, I highly recommend finding an acupuncturist. As to your doctor, if you don't like him, find a new one; check the yellow pages and call around until you find one you think will fit your needs, and find an OB/GYN if you need help regulating your cycle to try to conceive.
