I got mine done and it wasn't as sore as I thought it would be, the only thing that changes is that your nipple becomes more sensitive (which isn't a bad thing) x

i had both of mine done, but my body never got used to them. it wasn't a severe rejection, but they were constantly irritated and sore on and off. so i just took them out. and unfortunately, i still get discharge from time to time. something to think about.

well...i did okay with the actual piercing. but then they kind of have to tug at the rings to center them. or at least they did with mine. i nearly passed out on the second one. i had to lie down for a bit before he could finish. and it was painful for several days after. i would tell someone with a low pain tolerance not to do it. just my opinion. :)

I've had mine done for about 2 years now.

At first they felt really good (although they did get knocked adn flare up now and again) but now it's almost as if they have no feeling at all.

It's weird but I like them so I doubt that I'll take them out.

They are cute though.

I had my right nipple pierced for six months, but I found that -- contrary to what I had been led to expect -- the piercing made my nipple less sensitive, not more sensitive. So I ended up removing it, and, mercifully, the sensation seems to have come back. I liked the look, but I figured I wouldn't have gotten the piercing if I'd known it would make me less sensitive....

So true.

I was always told that it makes the senation better but it's only for the first year or so.

Probably about 6 months until it was ok to play with regularly.

It would have been sooner had I not caught it on so many things.

Barbells are a real pain for that, threads from towels gets wraped around they very easily.

Also, when I had problems recently, I found that it was from the barbell being too short and the balls being too close to the nipple and not allowing any movement unless they were erect.

I put in some D Rings and now they are ok.

Expect some crusties even after they are meant to have healed.

Ohh yes, as another person pointed out, never rotate them unless you have removed all of the gross bits first, it bloody hurts!

i have both of mine done, and have never had any problems. the piercing itself was great... i suggest relaxing, and not tryingt to ignore it. you will notice a steel needle penetrating your nipple. :) i had mine pierced diagonally, with a needle a gauge larger than the jewelery used. this allowed for easier movement in those first few weeks, and easier cleaning. make sure you keep cleaning, but DO NOT use anti-bacterial soap. i suggest cleaning in the shower and before bed. be careful with knit blankets and sweater, they can get snagged. oh. yes, if you plan to stretch yours , as i did, i suggest piercing more towards the back of the nipple than center.
i'm not sure what else is essential. get a good sleep the night before. good luck with everything, it's not that bad, really.

ps . i think the side effects really differ per person. some people get keloids (can be treated, i think, with salt water and time), huge changes in sensitivity, etc. i'm not sure how common chronic crustiness is , but so, far that hasn't happened to me. it's been about three years now since i had it done.

i had both my nipples pierced two and a half years ago, but unfortunately one rejected last year. i miss it. i didn't notice any change in nipple sensations, but it did make me a lot happier with my breasts than i had been previously.

as for care of the piercing, use a solution of 1tsp sea salt to 1 cup of warm-hot water and soak your piercings 2-4 times a day. that's all you need to do. do not use antibacterial soap directly on the piercing, no matter what your piercer tells you. try not to touch your piercings at all, and if you must, make sure your hands have been washed with anti-bacterial soap and make sure the piercing area has been soaked so that you don't tear anything.

i also suggest you check out http://www.bmezine.com - there are some good experience stories there and pictures, myths etc. mine is there somewhere ;)

My fiancee has his right nipple pierced...and I think the sensation is the same for women as well..as he goes nuts if I pull on it....lol.

But the thing is, I don't know whether or not to get mine done, as I want to breastfeed (maybe) and I have heard it severs the tube that the milk comes out of..:(

I've heard that and I've heard of milk coming out of the piercing itself. A friend of mine called her piercing place on hte subject in a panic after she had hers done because she plans on nursing. they told her not to worry about it and just remember to take the jewelery out first. Heh.

I have both of mine done. It's been about 3 months though.

Painwise: the consensus of everyone I've ever talked to seems to be that it hurts much less than you think it will. I know that was the case for me. It also doesn't have the burning feeling afterwards that some of my other piercings have had (like my nose and ears).

Sensitivity-wise: There's pretty much no telling what it will do to your sensitivity. You could gain some, you could lose some, or it could do nothing. Personally, my nipples had practically no sensitivity before the piercing. Now they're insanely sensitive. You can hardly breathe on them without making me jump. But I know another girl who's noticed no difference at all, and there's really no way to tell in advance.
