VCF melts into my finger; I think I wasted as many or more out of the box than I actually used. Semicid has slipped out. Both have gotten stuff into his urethra and irritated him. I hesitate on a diaphragm because of the horrificness of trying to have sex with an Instead in. I've only been off the pill a few months; I wanted to try to get back in touch with my cycle for a while. But I guess it's back to that or condoms...

You might look into a cervical cap, Lea barrier or oves. They fit differently than Instead or a diaphragm. It is recommended that they are used with spermicide though, however the spermicide is generally contained within the cap, so this might eliminate some of the irritation for your partner. An IUD would also be a possibility. Be sure to look up some information about current models if you are at all open to the idea, they are much different (i.e. incredibly safe) than the ones of the 1970s.

Have you thought about an IUD? It's completely internal, non-hormonal (if you get copper), and only uncomfortable for a short time after insertion. I've had mine for a month and am so glad I got it. You still get your cycle, so that's not an issue.

It has the effectiveness rate of a tubal ligation and lasts 10 years (easily reversible before that), which is great for me, who doesn't want kids :)

Unfortunately, the IUD is the only nonhormonal, nonbarrier, spermicide-free method (aside from sterilization). I'd recommend the IUD or a cervical cap.
