grrr...I am going to NY tonight because I was supposed to see the VMs at her University- which she is in this year- and she just called to let me know it was pushed back two weeks. So now I am thinking that I have my little sister that weekend, and wondering if the VMs are appropraite for an 11-yr old. What do you ladies think? She is pretty old for her age, and we have already started talking about drugs and why models with bones protruding are not what a healthy woman looks like, so I think she can handle it, but I have never actually seen the monolouges before, so I am not positive. Thanks for your input.

The version I saw on TV, with Eve Ensler, contains detailed (in a poetic sort of way) descriptions of rape, among other things I'd consider too graphic for anyone under about 15, depending on the person. I can think of few 11-year-olds I'd want to expose the descriptions to.

i've seen the one with eve ensler and ive seen it in NYC... and yes, there are descriptions of rape by men and by guns and brooms. so that one... i dont know if i would recommend an 11 yr old seeing that one.

theres also one with all the different kinds of orgasmic moans. not sure if your sister would be privy to that.

but the rest of them are really really REALLY good. i'd talk to your mom or dad if they're around to ask and see what they think.

my little sister is 11, and i would like nothing more than for her to come see me in the play in march. following that, i'd like to sit down and talk with her about what she thought, questions she had, etc. too bad my parents aren't going for it. maybe next year...she's also still a bit in the stage where any body part (male or female) is pretty gross. good luck.

I'm in the Vagina Monologues here ath the University of Michigan, and we have a ten year old doing part of a monologue, which is titled "The Coochie Snorcher That Could". I think it all depends on how mature your sister is, and how open you are with her. I would say it could be a rewarding and positive experience for her.

Take a look at the book at the library or bookstore and see whether you think its content is appropriate for her.

I was in the One at my school, we had 2 young girls in it. It does has grusome parts, (rape, sexual assualt, etc.) But I would highly reccomend it if i had a sister of my own. If you want to read the script before you take her, I can send it to you via e-mail. This year univeristies are allowed to add new monolouges written by the student that won't be in the script, but for the mostpart that would be it.
