Christmas is coming and of course there is an extra layer of chaos around this time - Jan 2nd I have a surgical abortion and I feel that it will create a very intense struggle in me.. starting off the new year with a bang. I've been smoking so much reefer to disassociate from this but I think I am ready to start accepting that I am in on this, and this is really happening.

I want to access as many positive, pro-choice/pro-fem resources over the internet and also through people in my community in Vancouver, British Columbia (counsellors, therapists, websites, books or bookstores, womens groups). It's difficult for me to develop strength from within at this time so I'm looking to my surroundings to find an extra burst of hope and vigor. The father of the fetus is in love with me and supportive of my decision, but he is in France so there is a bit of difficulty with communication and physical closeness.

Authors or titles of books that are good for developing confidence and strength would be great too- even if they are not about overcoming abortion.

Thank You, people of the Pagina.

p.s. It's nice to belong to this community and find through daily Pagina Postings that we are in this together, and that the pussy and pen are mightier than the sword.

First of all ::hugs:: for you, because it must be difficult having this on your mind over Christmas.
I'm pro choice, because I feel its a womans choice whether or not to bring a child into this world and in some cases, it is best not to.
If you feel thsi is the best decision, then good for you.
Also, I am so glad the father is supporting you in your decision.
And also, I am sure I speak for us all here, we do feel happy that people like yourself feel they can speak about such intimate things with people that they hardly (if any) know at all.

I haven't been in your situation before, but if you need more support from around you, check your local health/family planning clinic and I am sure they should have some names of local pro choice groups. Or just google it lol.

::hugs::

i don't know any links/books, either, but hang in there! that sounds like a lot to deal with, but we gals are resilient. you can do it! stay healthy, don't let yourself get stressed out--that will lead to a crash, physical, mental, & emotional in my experience. we are behind you! <3

OP, thank you for trusting VP enough to share your story. We're honored to have you here, and we hope you receive kind thoughts and the help you seek.

Commenters: We'd like to remind you all of VP's rules (http://www.vaginapagina.com/index.php?title=VaginaPagina_FAQ), specifically with regard to abortion debate in VP on LJ:

"VaginaPagina as a body does not take a stance on abortion, or on any other controversial issues for that matter. It's not that we don't all have our own personal opinions, but political biases aren't what we're about. We're about health and access to information.

"We ask that our members refrain from arguing about abortion issues here as it's counterproductive to community cohesiveness."

Click here (http://www.vaginapagina.com/index.php?title=VaginaPagina_FAQ#What_is_VP.27s_position_on_abortion.3F) to read more.

We'd also like to remind everyone that abortion debate is fine in the "Politics" section of the VP.com Forums (http://forums.vaginapagina.com), but is unwelcome everywhere else on the site/LJ community.

VP is fabulous because of its members, so please take care to uphold the rules and your usual wonderfulness as you comment to this and every post. Thanks!

You might want to check out sisterzeus.com if you haven't already. The sight deals mostly with herbal abortions, but the content also approaches the emotional/spiritual impacts abortions can have on women. Navigating the website is a little tricky, so here's the link with the most accessible information:
http://www.sisterzeus.com/List.htm

And here's a link to the visualizations & meditations some women find helpful:

I hope this finds you as well as possible. There's a really beautiful poem by Christine M. Toth called "Eclipse" that I can't find on the internet, but my friend has a DVD that uses it in a short film, i.e. I could type it up for you if you like.

You may find these tagged VP entries (http://community.livejournal.com/vaginapagina/tag/abortion-resources-and-support) to contain some helpful information. There may also be valuable links in VP's Vulvapedia entry on abortion (http://www.vaginapagina.com/index.php?title=Abortion). I hope you're able to develop the strength you need. :)

A wonderful resource for pro-choice support here on LJ, in addition to VP, is [livejournal.com profile] abortioninfo. I have had an abortion myself (mine took place during the holiday season, too) and I found a wealth of information and kindness there both before and afterwards.
