how often is it okay to use hair remover creams? with waxing eventually hair follicles die, that doesnt go the same for the creams, correct? im not sure if it goes into your skin and kills them or what exactly is going on.

Hair remover creams are okay to use (as directed). However, many people find the chemicals are harsh and can cause burns on sensitive skin, so definitely do a patch test as recommended!

These creams (depilatories) have a high pH that dissolves the hair at the skins' surface. The hair follicle is still healthy and new hair will push through the skin as it grows, just like shaving. Some people find these creams last longer than shaving.

Do not use normal depilatory creams on your bikini-line or any other sensitive areas, there are special formulations just for sensitive skin. And even those should be used with caution.

I, personally, have had some very bad chemical burns from these creams. Experiment with brands and times, and again, be sure to patch test, follow the directions, and rinse if you feel ANY discomfort.

No, hair removal creams will not kill the hair follicles. It may seem that hair is not growing as fast as it would when you shave because when you use the depilatory, it dissolves the hair just below the surface of the skin. Therefore, it takes more time for you to notice the growth.

I don't shave my legs, I ONLY use depilatories, because the smooth feelings stays longer, and it looks fabulous!! Plus, depending on the type of hair that you have, you may only need to use a depilatory once a week, or once every two weeks.

Be careful though. If you get the depilatory cream on any scabs, cuts, or any minor skin cuts, scrapes, etc. THE CREAM WILL BURN THE SKIN AT THESE AREAS -- so make sure to be careful, as you'll be left with scabs, and maybe even scarring depending on your skin type.

I've burnt myself with these creams, and am now very careful about avoiding those sensitive areas of the skin.

I've always been fine with Nair Bikini Line Cream (though the "special vanilla scent" thing kind of weirds me out). I guess it just burns the hair out, which doesn't sound very pleasant, but it's not as awful as it founds. My only complaint is there's always a few hairs that don't come out and I usually get some red bumps around the area if it's irritated at all during the next few days. And MAKE SURE YOU DON'T HAVE ANY CUTS DOWN THERE! Apparently I had the tiniest cut on my outer labia and didn't realize it until I nair-ed. And that hurt like a bitch.

If your skin is extra sensitive and it does burn, a little moisturizer with aloe and baby powder has always worked for me.

haha and to answer your actual question, I use Nair about once a month with no problems and nobody has ever advised me otherwise.
