Taste.

I'm really conscious about the taste down there - and am not really confident to expose myself to my SO...

And basically, I just want to ask, are there any specific things that would help me get over this? I heard there are some foods that apparently make you taste better... I just need help concerning this. It's really makes me nervous!

A vegetarian diet will give you a mild flavor, but that can be a drastic life change just for a little thing. Avoiding spicy foods, cured meats, garlic, onions, alcohol, etc... keeping clean will generally be enough. Some men really like the taste and it doesn't matter what you do... have you asked him?

Strawberries and other fruits make it better, while things like asparagus and garlic make it worse. I think if it makes your breath smell bad, it would make your genitals smell bad too.

I don't know about girls, but I know that beer make's a guy's cum taste NASTY.

About men's flavors and diets...

Organic vegetarian cum is amazing. I would never ingest the protein of a meat eater ever again. Organic vegetarian cum is like really creamy gravy.

That's not really a ringing endorsement for some of us, haha.

i dunno. my partner eats only organics and he's also vegan, but his fluid tends to taste a bit tart and sour and overall not as pleasant as i'd want it to. but, this could have something to do with the amount of beer he drinks.

Do get: All fruit/fruit juices, especially pineapple. Orange, strawberry, and mango work well too. Drink LOTS of water and eat your veggies.

Avoid: smoking, alcohol, caffeine, red meat, fatty foods, processed foods, and asparagus.

Heh. All my vices. Well, most anyway. Except the smoking.

The food thing seems hit or miss-you're still going to taste like vagina, because that's what vagina tastes like for the most part.

Try showering immediately prior to sex. Vaginal fluids when aroused are almost like water, not thick and creamy. The "vagina smell" comes from non-aroused fluids.

I kinda have a similiar fear, although in my case, it's not how it tastes, because I know I do not taste bad, but rather, a small fear that smegma will be down there, so I'm pretty anal about wanting to only have sex if I've showered recently-within a few hours prior.

Actually, I doubt they're 'attracted' to the smell at all. I mean, obviously if a girl smells really bad they won't want to go down on her, but at the same time, I doubt most guys sit around smiling and think of how girls poon's smell.

I know how hard it is to get over an irrational concern about a body part. Trust me though, I imagine your fella won't care as long as it doesn't smell or taste bad. (and most of the taste comes from our sense of smell anyway-so as long as you're clean, you won't taste bad)

I think they are. Primarily I think that because of theorys about pheremones, etc...that could be totally off base, but I don't think its weird to think that men would be attracted to the smell. Maybe even just on an unconcious level. :)

Hmmm... I know a fair number of men, as well as poon-loving women, who would disagree with this. Perhaps it is something that varies according to the individual.

I may not be a guy, but I like girls, and I disagree completely. I don't get terribly turned on by my own scent, but when I think about how my girlfriend smells, I definitely get hot.

I think it's an almost entirely hormonal reaction.

Scratch n' sniff Georgia O'Keefe's would be none too popular; vaginas don't really smell too much like flowers, but that's *my* girl's vagina, and I'll take that over some stupid, soon-to-wilt flower any day. A flower is attached to a stem. My girlfriend's vagina is attached to my girlfriend. I rest my case.

I'm totally turned on by how my girlfriend smells and tastes. We actually have a really similar smell and taste to each other, and sometimes I'll get a lttle turned on smelling my own! I sit and smile about how she smells :D

IMO pussy should taste like pussy. Getting worked up about smells/tastes has got to be very stressful!

I had the same fears, but I got over it by facing my fears.

Take a good shower prior, it'll calm you.

Or if you're really curious, taste yourself!

Guys are different, they like it, haha. I don't really like it but hey whatever makes them happy.

Some medications and vitamins can make you taste different.

once, during oral sex, my partner came up for air and told me that i tasted really good that day. i wish to god i could remember what i'd eaten around that time, because i loved hearing him say that. alas, i could not. at least he's never complained of me tasting bad.

anyway, i think just eating citrus fruits will change the taste a bit. if you're really concerned about smelling bad, then try to stay away from fish, because that will contribute to a stronger odor. i've heard that garlic is beneficial to the vagina's pH, but i have no idea what it will do to the smell.

so what i'm saying is. go for the fruits!

You might've been ovulating. I taste and smell like a peach pie on my egg days.

My husband always tells me that I'm the best tasting woman he's ever had and I'm a total health nut. I don't eat any red meat, junk food, fast food, fried stuff, white flour, don't drink, don't smoke etc. etc. So, basically, you are what you eat. If you eat nasty, fatty stuff then its going to make a difference. I also almost always shower or wash the genital area if I'm short on time before any sexual contact.

In my experience, they usually seriously don't care. They kind of know that vagina tastes like vagina, you know?

Wait-wait-wait-wait-wait. Are you saying that you're refusing to receive oral sex entirely, on account of this? Or are you just afraid to talk with your SO about it?

Like a few other people, i absolutely swear by large quantities of pineapple juice. Seriously, I've only been at it for a week and a half and there's already substantial imporvement.

I don't have anything to add, but I just wanted to thank you for posting this. I've always wondered about the same thing=) I think a big part of it is society and the media are constantly sending us messages to make our vaginas "clean" when in reality our vaginas are self cleaning and commercials tell us that we should smell like flowers, strawberries, peaches, spring breez etc. when in reality, our vaginas should smell like vaginas (but that message doesn't sell the latest and greatest "fresh wipes" and douches).

my boyfriend loves the taste/smell of my vagina and we eat fast food like 3x a week, eat lots of red meat, drink lots of caffeine, etc. granted my diet is a little more well rounded than his but still. so yeah. i have nothing to offer except that if your guy is like mine, chances are good that he thinks you taste good.

pop into the bathroom some minutes before the deed and rinse generously.
if it's clean, how it smells is how it should smell.
having had experience on both sides, I much prefer the taste of vaginal secretions to semen, so I figure men don't really have a strong platform to complain from on that end.

I just read a book called 'The Pocket Idiot's Guide to Oral Sex" by Ava Cadell, Ph.D. The subject of taste is covered in this book. Dr. Cadell shows a recipe for: The Vagina Cocktail. Put these 3 ingredients in equal parts in a glass or blender, with or without ice. Orange juice (Vit. C for overall good health), cranberry juice (helps prevent urinary tract infections), and pineapple juice (has the most healing components of any juice). Also add 1 tablespoon of your favorite yogurt (can prevent yeast infections). The book also covers what a man should do to improve his taste. Shower, bathe, sponge-bath with or without partner. This book is very informative on various areas re: oral sex.

I don't know how it'll affect a woman's taste, but I know that if my boyfriend eats Chinese/Japanese food prior to sex it's none too pleasant for me later. I'm guessing it's the MSG or something.

I would just stick to fruits and shower before- my boyfriend doesn't particularly like to go down on me, but I can usually persuade him if I take a shower before sex.
