For the last couple of months or so, when I lie in certain positions (missionary, for example) during sex, it hurts a lot. But if I lie on my stomach, it doesn't hurt so much. I talked to a nurse (can't see the gyno until the 19th), and she said I may not be getting aroused enough and to start having more foreplay and breaking out the K-Y. I did and it's helped somewhat, but not entirely. I have no idea what it could be. Any thoughts?

description of the pain: My vaginal walls and the back of my vagina hurt with penetration in some positions, even when I'm lubricated.

It'll be easier to help if you describe the pain. What does it feel like? What part of your body hurts?

What does it feel like? Does it feel like your vagina's dry or does it feel like a stabbing pain in your stomach?

For the record, I hate KY, but some people like it. Glycerin is irritating for some women. Do you use condoms and if so are they with spermicide? This could also be causing pain...

OOH definitely use lubricated condoms!!!!!!!!!!! Not only are they irritating if they aren't lubricated but they are also way more likely to break. Sometimes I use lube ON TOP OF lubricated condoms. Don't get the ones with spermicide though, because of the reason mentioned. You could be allergic, but I'd try lubricated condoms first and if those still give you irritation, I'd try polyurethane condoms. This sounds like a lubrication problem but it could be a lubrication and allergy problem.

This might be a few things, but I am guessing its this... (because I experienced the same thing)

You might have a tilted cervix. It doesn't mean anything is wrong with you, it just means that some positions will provide a little discomfort and pain... so try your best to work around it if possible. If there is anything else, like blood or discharge... see your gyno... could be an STI... or a UTI...

Good Luck!

Wish I had advice, but I'll be watching this post 'cause I have the same problem...pain on insertion that started suddenly mid-relationship and lube doesn't help. It drives me nuts!!! The gyno's been so unhelpful too, I hope you have better luck when you go in.

Is it possible that the pain you describe in the back of your vagina may be due to the cervix being hit during penetration?

In some positions, penetration goes deeper and bumps the cervix. Many, if not most, women find this uncomfortable or even painful. This can change since your cervix changes positions during your cycle (sometimes it's lower, sometimes higher).
