So I go for months without a period. Just went for almost a year without one. Yipee! Right? Wrong. Cause the opposite is happening now. Heavy period going for weeks. I go between bleeding heavily and lightly and never know how much from day to day. This pattern has been going on for years, and I know I can take meds to regulate my period, I just don't like having to go to the doctor time and again for refills on the meds and quite frankly I like going months on end without a period.

Okay, so my question is this: This happens (the doctor says) because of my weight. (I am very heavy) Is there any way other than medicine to stop my period? I don't want to go into the doctor, and be put on monthly 10 days worth of meds that jump start my period. I have a hard (impossible) time remembering to take it. Then of course there is that whole monthly having to deal with my period. Hate that time of the month, rather have no period at all.

Second question: Any reason why I should be having a regular period?

If people can take Seasonale (a birthcontrol pill) to have a period only 4 times a month, I don't see why you can't skip them, too. I used to have them every third month when I was younger. It wasn't until I was in my late 20's and on the pill that my period came monthly, and I'm not heavy. If you think there's a real medical concern with not having periods, discuss it with your doctor and tell him/her that you don't mind skipping so much.
