Hi. I read the memories pertaining to skipping your period with the Nuvaring, but they didn't exactly answer my question. Others have posted about keeping the Nuvaring in for four weeks, taking it out, and then immediately putting a new one in for three (or four) weeks. My period is due to start on the first day of vacation with my boyfriend (how convenient!), and I'm wondering if it would be safe to leave my Nuvaring in for that extra week, take it out after four weeks and have a period, and then put another ring in for three weeks and continue with my regular cycle. Has anyone done this? Did it mess up your cycle?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

4 in - 1 out is safe to do, but you might get spotting. =/

You could always stack your rings too, but you might spot as well. =(

Try it out. No harm in that! ^_~

I would call your doctor or GYN, but after talking with my doctor when I went in for migranes he told me that it is perfectly healthy to skip your period, although society would probably say that it's not. I have skipped my period before, and this was on the pill, but it worked effectively and the only problem was there was a little bit of spotting as I got to about two weeks into the cycle. If your vacation is not going to be long then I would def. suggest doing this, I don't think that the nuvaring and the pill are that different considering you wear it internally versus swallowing it. When I took the pill it did not mess up my cycle, if anything it changed the day I started taking the placebos, but I wasn't too angry with that. Anyway, I hope this is helpful.

Totally fine. The rule with Nuvaring (and most other HBC) to stay protected from pregnancy: At least 21 days in, no more than 7 days out.

So you can vary...23 days in, 3 days out; 28 days in, 7 days out; etc.

I've been using it for about 8 months now, and I'm pretty inconsistent about how long I leave it in and how long a break I take. So far my body's been responsive and does what the ring tells it, i.e., it has a period when the ring is out. Your mileage may vary, but good luck!

You sure can.

As long as you wear it for at least 21 days and don't go without another for more than 7, you are protected. So keep track! I always mark on my calendar when I put a ring in and when I take it out so that I don't forget. And as I said above, my body's been pretty decent about not spotting, but you never know. It really is convenient though. I LOVE THE RING!

(You can do the same thing with pills too. It's harder to keep track of though since they come in packs of 21, so you'd have to start pulling pills from the next pack, and keeping track of what week/hormone level you're on if it's a tri-phasic.)

I do it all the time. I think I've done 22, 21, 24, 27, so far, with no problems. :)

If I leave it out for fewer than 7 days, say... 4, will my period be shorter than the 4-5 days it is right now? I might start experimenting. This is pretty cool. I totally never knew I could do this. I love my ring so much more every day!
