update on the girl terrified of a biopsy. +cryo surgery =\

hi. some of you may remember me. i posted a week or two ago about being terrified of having a biopsy.
well. today was the day. i drugged up on motrin and valium, and even though i was nervous, i didnt throw up or pass out or anything like i thought i would. i let my gyno and the nurse know that i was VERY nervous about the biopsy, and they were super nice to me. all through the colp and biopsy, they kept asking me if i was okay.
it wasnt pleasant, by any means. in fact, im pretty sure i squealed like a piggy when she took the biopsy. haha. it took her a while to get the bleeding to stop. =\ that freaked me out a little. but then she got it to stop. and told me to raise up very slowly, asked me if i felt dizzy and i said "...not yet." i was sure that i would go into my state of shock that i usually go into after i have any invasive medical procedure done. so i sat there for a few minutes. but to my surprise, i felt fine. they gave me a pad (even though id brought one with me) so they left, i got dressed and went to make my follow-up appointment.

so anyway.
it turns out that i have mild to moderate dysplasia. the lab results from my pap indicated that it was mild, but my gyno said it looked more moderate during the colposcopy. =\ so i have to go back in ten days for cryo surgery.
im not TOO worried about that. ive heard different stories. that it doesnt hurt, or it hurts like hell. *shrug* i can handle pain i suppose.
freezing parts of my cervix doesnt freak me out as much as cutting pieces off of it.

but. so anyway!
how many of you have had cryo done?
id really like to hear your experiences with it.\
of course, you can tell me about the pain (if any) involved.
but im more curious to know if its pretty successful in getting rid of the bad cells.


also.
if my dysplasia is moderate...what are the chances of my biopsy coming back showing cancerous cells?
im actually really worried about that. my gyno said that if it came back showing that, they'd have to do a cone biopsy.
frankly, id rather shoot myself in the face.

don't worry yourself until you actually get the biopsy back. First of all, chances are if it shows anything cancerous, it will probably be precancerous and not actually cancerous if you have had normal paps before this last abnormal one.

Also, when I had my colposcopy, my doctor thought things looked bad, but the biopsy didn't show anything more than very mild abnormalities, not even necessarily dysplaysia, so it wasn't near as bad as they thought.

You MAY have cancerous cells, or precancerous cells, but if you do, your GYN will know how to take care of it best and so long as you do what they say, you can usually catch things early on enough that it isn't a problem later.

she just worried me a little because she acted...i dont know...a tiny bit shocked. like my cervix was a lot worse than she expected.

Yeah, they acted the same way with me, and they had me completely freaked out. I kept trying to keep it cool and not let anyone see how upset I was, but I went home and locked myself in my bedroom and called my poor boyfriend in absolute hysterics.

And all of my freaking out was completely unnecessary becuase things weren't that bad at all. Sometimes it's just hard to tell until you get the biopsy back. So that's why whenever someone on here starts getting a little nervous, I tend to try to get them to stay calm till they get ALL of the results.

I had severe dysplasia (about) five years ago. I also had Cryo-Surgery. It wasn't nearly as bad as the Colposcopy + 3 biopsies + scraping. It was cold (which felt strange in a place that never gets cold) and I had mild period-like cramping during the procedure. I had just a bit of cramping that day, and I took it easy, and had no other complications. Since my Cryo-Surgery I've had nothing but normal Paps!

*You say that you were drugged up on Motrin, and your doc had a difficult time stopping your bleeding? Is it possible that the Motrin thinned your blood?

I ALWAYS had normal pap smears so when I went for my regularly schedule annual appt. about a year ago, I was surprised (but not really worried) when I got a letter in the mail saying my results were abnormal and to please schedule a follow-up appointment.

So I did and I had the biopsy done, which I didn't think was really all that bad at all and I have a VERY low tolerance for pain.

I get a call from my DR about 2 days later saying that it turned out it WAS precancerous cells. I did the same thing and flipped out wondering how long this had gone on and if I was going to get cervical cancer and if this changed my chances of having it in the future. I actually had to go to the hospital and get part of my cervix cut out :-( Obviously, they knocked me out with anesthesia (it was a very quick procedure though) and the day after I had very minor cramping but nothing bad at all! And then ever since then my results have been fine!

So I didn't have the cyro surgery but I just wanted to share my experience with the whole dysplasic/procedure thing. I hope everything works out the best for you!

ps - this was the "cone biopsy" that you mentioned. Yes there were some drawbacks - like if I'm ever pregnant I just have to keep my doctor informed because it increases your risk for an early delivery but that risk is very very very very very low.

And like I said, the procedure was not bad at all, and even that day I was doing normal activities with only minor cramping.
