Hello. I am on OTC-Lo and I'm in my period week. My period usually starts on Wednesday [It lasts 4 days] and ends on Saturday.. Right before I start my new pack. I was nervous because my period didn't start today so I induced it with a masturbation session. It worked. My question is, had I not done that.. and it took let's say a day longer to come... Would I just have like a day long period or would it spill over to my first set of pills with the next pack?

Also... Why does your period stop in water?

Thanks.. [=

Mine too. If I take a nice book to the bath on my heaviest day... and this sounds truly gross... but I keep having to scoop big ol' gooey clots out of the water.

When I start a new set of pills, my period tends to go for one or two days after I start it. (It gets much lighter, but it is still there.)
So I guess it would have just "spilled over" into your first few days of pills, and then tapered off.

My period doesn't stop in water, but I always wondered why it started after masturbating/having an orgasm. My period could have been 'done' for three days, and after sex it just starts right up again for at least a day. Strange.

The contractions from an orgasm squeeze your uterine walls, too.

First: the volume of your menstruation is pretty much set before you start menstruating. So, I doubt it - you probably just ended up having it be a little lighter when it would have been at it's heaviest. But yeah - sometimes the period and the first new pills overlap for me. Won't hurt ya.

Second: It doesn't stop, usually, but it often slows down. I think it either has something to with osmotic pressure and your body's natural defense against foriegn stuff getting into your vagina and the fact that we expect a heck of a lot more to show up because out of water it collects but in water it disappates as soon as it gets outside your vagina.

*menstruating that month, not before you reached puberty.

The most likely response is that your period doesn't actually stop in water, but that the water dilutes the blood and it isn't noticeable. Or, the pressure of the water keeps it from actually leaving the vagina. I've also read that cold water causes your vaginal muscles to tense, thus also holding the blood in.

I don't notice blood in the shower or bath unless I'm rinsing things out a bit.

Your period would most likely continue for it's normal length. A lot of women don't even see their periods until far into their placebo week or even into their next set of active pills. My period normally came on day 5 or 6 of the placebos and I typically bled for 4 to 5 days (so until day 3 or 4 of my new pack) the last time I was on the pill.
