Hi everyone-
I take YASMIN28 and I start the "period pill" week today, but for the past two or three days of the pill, I've had some cramps and some tendernous in the breasts. I've never had this happen before and wondered if it was common or if it meant something? Also, I've been on this pill since I was about 15 and I'm 19 now. I'm on it because everytime I go off it I get ovarian cysts, however, now it is causing constant headaches. My neurologist says this happens sometimes and that I have to get off the pill... what do you all think? Cysts or headaches?? That's my choice basically..
Thanks,
Sara

Are you seeing a gynocologist?

That might be a dumb question, but a gyno would be in the best position to help you balance the benefits and problems with bc pills. Headaches are pretty common on the pill. I suspect some pills make them worse than others and there are a great variety these days.

Yasmin made me want to die. I got diarrhea every four days for the entire month I was on it. It's supposed to have a lower incidence of side effects - which is why they're perscribing the hell out of it - but obviously, my GI tract didn't read that particular study.

Will progestin-only pills prevent the cysts? Most of the side effects of the pill comes from the estrogen (which makes me think the cyst prevention would be the estrogen, but it's worth an ask.)

It sounds like Yasmin isn't working out anymore. But luckily there are a TON of other birth control pills, plus the ring, the patch, Depo, and hormonal IUDs that can all change your hormones and hopefully prevent cysts. There's no way to tell which one will cause headaches or not, but at least there's a ton of them to try, so it's not like you have to stay with this one, or use nothing at all.

yasmin made me want to freak, i was on depo for 2 1/2 years and loved it (however apparently one should only use it for two years due the fact that it can weaken bones) i was also on ortho tri-cyclen and a generic version for about 2-3 years and loved it and now have the paragard iud and love it, however if you have cyst issues an iud might not be the right answer for you

If it feels like cysts, try a different BC. I was on the NuvaRing for like 4 months and my cysts completely cleared up.
