I have a question about the pregnancy test I just got.
It says "For in-vitro uses only"
What does that mean?
I want to make sure I got the right thing and I never used one before. :x

test-tube. it's the opposite of "in-vivo" which means "in the body." so this is an external test only. you're all good :)

Would in-vivo in this case refer to a blood test?

in vivo, I would think, would refer to a test that you used inside your body. For example a test that you swallowed, or stuck in your vagina or something? Literally in the body! I don't really know, but given the terminology, that would be my guess. A blood test would still be in vitro, assuming you're thinking of the blood being drawn and then tested.

hmmmm. you have a good question. i'm not sure the technical term, because really, if you draw blood and test that blood, it's still an in-vitro test because the test/work/analysis wasn't done physically in the body.

personally, i think that bc test's label is misleading. or perhaps my definition sucks. :)

i wonder if they were just trying to avoid people sticking the test up their vag or something?

i think you're right. I think its to prevent women from sticking the test up their vaginas and expecting to find out a result in the end.

its amazing how many people don't read directions.

i feel like the kind of person who would stick a pregnancy test up their vagina wouldnt know what "in vitro" meant. (not that the OP is this kind of person.) but wouldnt they need to be more specific - "THIS IS NOT MEANT TO GO UP YOUR VAGINA" kinda thing? lol.

It's for/from the legal "cover your ass" department. Then they can testify in court, if necessary, "No, we're innocent, we said the magic words in the user information."

What kind of test is this? Just a regular pee on a stick test?
