Well, I noticed people in here suggesting that one try inserting thier diva cup off thier period, just to get the hang of it.  Now, I THINK I did it right, but it seems like my diva cup is a little too big for me, and I am aware of it, really aware.  It doesn't hurt, and it is as far in as the manual says (not as far as a tampon, just a half an inch past my opening).  Is it normal for it to seem too large at first, and to notice it at first?  How long until I get used to it?

Also, whenever I do get my period back, will keggels while wearing it cause it too leak or spill?

You may have it positioned too low for your body. The manual is a good starting place, but you may want to play with adjusting it, pushing it up, and using kegels to position it. When it's sitting "right" it won't leak and you probably won't feel it at all.

And, even though I've mostly answered it, kegels won't disloge the divacup or cause it to leak or spill. Rather, they should help position it comfortably in your body. That's how I make sure mine is in place.

i haven't used the diva cup, but i remember my first couple times i used a tampon, i was -super- aware of some object shoved up my vagina. but that was just because i wasn't used to an object of that size or shape being in there. maybe it's the same thing with the diva cup. once you get your period and have it in a few times, you won't even realize you have the cup in.

I was constantly aware of mine during my first period with it, but I think it was just because my vagina wasn't used to having something in her all the time.

I was the same with my stem. I agree with all of this,

I could feel the Diva cup during my dry runs, too. But once I got my period, I couldn't feel it at all. Go figure. :)

Oh, and I forgot about the kegel part of your question. I've never had any trouble with leaks from doing kegels. Occasionally, having a bowel movement will cause leaks, but definitely not kegels. :)

i second the stem part. i felt aware of my cup the first 2 days i used it on my cycle, but then i cut about half the stem off and now i forget it's in there half the time. every once and awhile it'll slide down a bit when i'm sitting for long periods of time, but i do a kegal or two to get it back into the right spot and i'm good to go.

To join the chorus: try trimming the stem! I think there are three segments on it--I trimmed one at first, then a second, and am working my way up to trimming the last one. The stem is just very poke-y on me.

But even apart from the stem, I can feel the cup--I wouldn't call it uncomfortable, but I know it's in there. You should get used to it after a cycle or two. I'd compare it to new dental work--you know how for the first week or so, you can't stop feeling new dental work with your tongue? But after a while, it just seems like a natural part of your mouth, and it stops bothering you.

And I know you didn't ask about this specifically, but insertion and removal get a lot easier with practice, too. My first cycle with the cup, insertion and removal were a big production, often involving outright pain when I did something wrong. I'm on my second cycle now--it's much easier now, and I only anticipate it getting even easier once I get more accustomed to it.

I'm terrible at linking, but there's a great livejournal community called menstrual_cups. I'd highly recommend joining if you're not already a member--there are some great posts in the memories, and a lot of wonderful ladies there who will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have on the topic.

Good luck with the Diva!

im not a divacup user (YET!) but i use insteads which are kinda on the same idea. when i first switched over to them i was totally aware of them but now, a year or so later, i cant feel them at all. sometimes my boyfriend will be like, "dont you have to go wash your cup out yet? you havent changed it all day" and ill be like, "oh yeah! i forgot i had my period. thanks!" ;) i say give it time and youll be ok. play with it a little too. good luck!

i don't let it hang out at all, it makes me hugely uncomfortable to have it hang out you can still get it if it's all the way it

I agree with many of the above. I could definitely feel it during my first dry run. It's kind of like wearing contact lenses - in the beginning you're aware of them, but after awhile you don't notice or feel a thing. Keep at it, and as your body adjusts to having it in there, and as you become more proficient at inserting it, you probably won't feel anything at all.
