Ok I will admit I havent checked the memories, I am at work, no time!! But I do have a question. I am ttc desperately and according to yourdays.com I should be fertile starting wednesday. I have a 33 day cycle and I last started on june 28. My question is this: When is the best time to have sex? I think I will ovulate on the 17th so should I have sex then. Is it better to have sex when I have the eggwhite discharge or like one day before? Can someone help?

I'm not an expert in TTC, but if you're due to ovulate on the 17th, I would have sex for a few days before and after, just to hedge your bets... say, every night from the 15th to 19th.

As well, you can pick up an ovulation predictor from most drug stores that will let you know when you are ovulating, if you want to be very certain. However, those tests can be pricey and IMO, the cheapest route is just to do it during the few days leading up to ovulation, and right after. :)

You can get perfectly good OPKs online at Babyhopes.com in bulk. 50 for 35$.

They always have worked well for me, I've been pregnant 3 times since I started using them in May of '05.

Ah, okay. The only OPKs I've really noticed are about $100 Canadian for one, but now I'm guessing those may be some kind of super-duper fancy model. As I said, this really isn't my area of expertise. :)

Those are probably fertility monitors. You can use it everyday and it will find your peak day.

I think it's a waste of money personally but some people love them.

I miscarried with all of them. 2 at 12-ish weeks and one at 4. Don't know why yet but am seeing an RE tomorrow (reproductive endocrinologist).

I don't know the truth of this or not, but it could explain why my ex BF who has 2 kids keeps testing sterile. Mr. "I masterbate 15+ times a day between sex sessions."

Go to Fertilityfriend.com and read their info section; the e-book, charting info, etc.

It's hard to say unless you are really temping and using ovulation predictor kits (ie, opk's). Everyone's ovulation is different. I have 33 day cycles and I ovulate on either cycle days 16, 17 or 18. I tend to try to have intercourse 3 days before ovulation through 2 days after. That way it increases my chances.

According to the TCOYF website (http://www.ovusoft.com/library/faqfertility.asp#1), you are most fertile in the few days leading up to ovulation.

How do you know you will be ovulating on the 17th? are you monitoring your fertility signs? if you're relying on the 'calendar method', ie just telling the computer how long your cycles are, then you should be aware that the date it gives you is only an estimate. It could be wildly off.

I was only asking, not everyone knows that the calendar method is inaccurate. No need to shout.

Haha I did think it was a bit of a random thing to shout! no problem :) best of luck to you.

When you see Eggwhite you want to do the baby dance because it means you are about to Ovulate. After Ovulation your body will dry up. :) I hope that helps. I am still kinda new to this TTC bit and still learning but from what I have heard when you have Eggwhite mucus you are most fertile. You might try Making_babies community (I don't know how to do a cut for communities) but it has been VERY HELPFUL for me. Good luck TTC.

Leading up to and during the eggwhite discharge.

Also, from what I've heard, the more you have sex, the more chances that is to conceive. Heh.

unless the man has low sperm count. In that case, it's better to not have sex when you're not fertile to sort of build up the sperm so that when you have sex during the fertile time there's a higher chance of conceiving.

Now, I'm not saying this out of experience TTC. BUT, all the anecdotal evidence points to the idea that babies are more easily conceived when there's less pressure. I realize that tracking your fertility could be (and probably is) only a small part of your efforts to conceive, but try to relax and have fun with it.

That is to say, I completely understand wanting to make sure that you hit the right segment of days to have better chances, but really if you're not necessarily on those exact days and you want to do the baby dance, by all means don't stop and say no we can't I'm not ovulating...

Having sex every day won't deplete his sperm count by so much as to be detrimental to your efforts. In fact it can only increase them because, bearing with the math...

Say you haven't done it in a week. For simple numbers let's say that he has 1000 spermies in one load of semen. Doing it every day might mean he's got 700 spermies in every shot which granted, that's a significant decrease from 1000, but that's a difference between 1000 and 4900 spermies going after an egg in one week.

Make sense? of course having sex 5+ times a day might be a little excessive, but hey if that's what strikes your fancy, you'll get pregnant eventually.

Good luck!!!

Well, if a couple is having trouble conceiving because of low sperm count, than it would be beneficial to not have sex during non-fertile times so that his body has more time to build up the sperm, and giving him a higher sperm count when the woman is actually able to conceive. This is why many couples find using Fertility Awareness and tracking fertility signs helpful for conceiving without resorting to fertility drugs and invasive treatments.

Of course, if the man has a normal/high sperm count, having a lot of sex would be good and not be detrimental to conceiving. But if it's marginal, being more careful about when you have sex can make the difference.
