Here's my current situation.

I've been on Depo for nearly 2 years and I H-A-T-E it! I've been looking into getting an IUD, however, I've been rejected from the majority of the "low-income" health care facilities in my area because of my age. (I'll be 21 at the end of the month). Here's my break down of options:

Pill: Any kind... I cannot swallow a pill of any size without literally choking. Also, I can't remember to take one.
Patch: I'm highly allergic to the glue. I have severe psorasis (60% of my body) and anywhere I put a patch gives my psorasis a flare-up.
NuvaRing: I don't trust this. It doesn't make sense how it works, and I frankly, am weirded out by putting a ring in my vagina every week.
Depo: As stated before, I hate it. Hate the dose of hormones, I've gained a lot of weight, and I'm terribly moody.
Condoms: They can break. Plus, latex allergy on the BF part. And I get dry and chaffed from any other one.
IUD: No one will give me one cause I"m so young.
Tubal: See Above.
Essure: See Above.

Are there any other options? Are there any "methods" other than absitience that I am missing?

I have NO desire for kids... EVER. No way in hell a child with ever be birthed by this body. Ever. If I could rip out my uterus and not be reproductive. I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Tanya

I third this. I love the NuvaRing, and this seems like the only one that you don't have some sort of physically bad reaction to, other than being a bit weirded out.

I fourth it. I would still be on Nuva Ring if I had insurance. Seriously, give it another thought. It could work for you.

I will sixth this.

Just kidding. I wanted to play!

I don't use the nuva ring but I always hear such great things about it. Either I hear great stuff OR the really bad stuff (side effects) but gain, HBC is all about body chemistry. No one can tell you how you will react.

So, maybe the ring is your best bet right now, if the chewable version of Ovcon is likely to cost you more.

You broke the ring-obsession chain!

Then I sixth it.

The ring is GREAT. My sex drive went up, I got happier, and my breasts got bigger. And I'm not pregnant. Plus my period is only two days now.

hah! i can eighth it! i love it. can't feel it at all while it's inside. and like others have said, it is in for 3 weeks and out for 1. or if you want less periods, you can do a 4 week in 1 week out deal.

the way it works is a time released hormones. i don't know the specifics, but i would assume that the release of hormones is affected by heat (based on the instructions saying to keep it refrigerated and if you take it out to rinse it off they say to use cool or tepid water.)

my husband can't feel it during sex except if he fingers me. and, by the instructions, you can remove it for 3 hours without reducing your effectiveness. so if your partner is weird about it, you can remove it for a couple of hours.

my period has gone from 7 days to 4-5 days. and it is considerably lighter too.

like someone else said, it might be worth it to try out because it seems to bother you the least out of the options you listed.

i hope you find a solution!

I ninth it! Almost never feel it, period went from 5 days to 3-4, and once the side effects went away, things have been fabulous. :-D

Eh now? I'm not sure what this comment is asking :)

(But I've been on both the Ring and the Patch and liked them both.)

She said the patch makes her psorasis flare up.

Yeah, sounds like a good reason for her to stay away from the Patch.

I'll tenth it.

I have moderate psoriasis too. It has been in an increasing flare pattern. No idea why.

Anyways, I love my NuvaRing. I refered my friend to it and she loves it too. You put it in once a month and take it out to bleed. It has greatly improved my periods. I was having issues with constant bleeding and now I bleed about 5 days instead of so many and it is much, much lighter flow.
