ive checked the memories but nothing really answered all of my questions...it was helpful just not exactly what i was looking for.

I have a genetic blood clotting disease/illness/something which gets worse on Hormones which caused me to get off of my true love the patch (worked amazingly for me). but this means the Mirena is out and im "stuck" with the Paraguard. this leaves a couple questions...

1) im 21 yrs old and im in a monogamous relationship and well i want kids but not for at least 5 yrs. am i going to have issues getting it because of how "young" i am? id be using it as BC (among other things) not to get me infertile for the rest of my life...if that makes a difference. in the memories, people seemed to think a 24 yr old should be able to get it relatively easily..but 21 and 24 are different.

2) other than BC which is a postivie side-affect of the Paraguard, i want to get on something because of bad cramps, nauseouness, and over all pain. these symptoms originally got me on hormones and realizing the Paraguard isnt hormonal, would it still reduce the cramps, etc?

3) i want to get this ASAP...my bf and i are getting impatient. i have yet to talk to my mom but i think she'll be good about it since when i was told i had to get off Hormones she even mentioned an IUD. how long will i have to wait? can i just call planned parenthood/gyno (depends on which will be cheaper for us) and say "i want an IUD, when can i have onbe put in" or if i do have to do the consult how long after the consult do i have to wait, typically, for the actual insertion.

I think thats about it. i did look through the memories and it did bring up other points (the age thing hadnt really occured to me) but it didnt answer the other questions to my knowledge. if i over looked something, ill delete this.

Before you rule out Mirena, have you checked with your health care providers to see if it's all hormnes, or if it's only estrogen containing contraceptive methods that aren't okay for you? Mirena, Depo Provera and the mini pill all contain only progestin, and may be acceptable.

That said, for some people, Paraguard can increase bleeding and cramps, though it's not guaranteed that it will.

[livejournal.com profile] iud_divas is a great place to get more information about IUDs and the experiences people have had trying to get them.

It seems to me that you wouldn't meet much resistance in getting an IUD because of the obvious reason why you're seeking one as opposed to another method. Good luck!

As far as your second question, all women experience IUDs differently, of course, but for some IUD users the device actually increases cramps and flow. That's something to consider if you do decide to go with an IUD... though there'd be no way to know how it would affect you unless you tried it.

For what it's worth (not much) - I had problems with all kinds of hormones, including progestin-only pills (so it wasn't just an estrogen problem). I've had a Mirena for 4 months, and adore it.
