I am a fifteen-year-old biological female (I'm FTM transgender), and for the past month or so, I have been having hot flashes. They are like a wave of heat going through my body, and take one to five minutes to pass. They occur whether or not I am dressed too warmly: I've had them in t-shirts; when I'm wearing a sweatshirt and have one, even if I take off the sweatshirt I am still hot.
The only medications I am on are doxycyclin (acne medication), and paxil. I take a multivitamin every day and drink lots of water; I also see a chiropractor, who didn't know what the deal was with them. I've been having my period for ~two years, although it is pretty irregular. Is this something I should have checked out, or is it most likely just hormones?

Date: 2006-06-01 01:05 am (UTC)I've had hot flashes myself - I had hormone injections for endometriosis, so I know how difficult it can be to cope. I find that splashing cold water on your face and wrists help (or a nice freezing shower!!!) and avoiding alcohol and caffiene may reduce the amount that you have.
Good luck!

Date: 2006-06-01 01:30 am (UTC)in your case, it may be hormones, or from the medication[s] as other people have suggested, so it would be good to check their side effects. i can definitely imagine hot flashes being a side effect of paxil.
*totally unrelated*

Date: 2006-06-01 06:42 am (UTC)It's probably the paxil causing the hot flashes. I got hot flashes when I was on it.
