Hello! I'm considering giving cloth (maxi) pads a try. I've done a small amount of research online and came across two brands at my local whole foods store - Gladrags, which I've known about for a while now, and Luna Pads, which are new to me. Personally, I'm leaning towards Luna Pads for purely aesthetic reasons involving cute patterns and colors. However, I'm curious about your opinions on the two (so far I haven't seen any other manufacturers and I'm not interested in making my own - I already have a long list of projects waiting to be completed!). Is there a difference in quality/comfort? I've noticed that Gladrags are far easier to find, but I don't mind ordering Luna Pads over the net if need be.

Also, I searched through vaginapagina memories for any posts concerning this topic, but I found mostly posts on how to make your own cloth pads.

Thanks in advance!

i greatly prefer lunapads. the little inserts slip around in gladrags, making for occasional leakage.

they both generally work well, though.

I haven't used both, but I can tell you about Gladrags...they're very soft and comfortable, much more so than a regular pad. I really like their night pads, because they're much more comfortable to sleep in than a regular pad and they have far better coverage.

The aesthetics: I only have the regular, non-colored ones but I believe they also make dark red and other colors now. That's probably nicer, as my regular colored ones turned sort of weird grey after a while from the repeated staining and so on, and they would probably look prettier if they were dark red instead.
Sorry I can't be of any help with the comparison, really.

i have used both... i prefer glad rags for lighter flow days, as the typical pads are smaller...and i prefer lunapads for heavier days and overnight wear, as they tend to be a little bulkier.

good luck

Something fun that I wanted to try was this pad-of-the-month club. I saw an article for it in BUST magazine and it sounded intresting. This woman, Tanya Goldberg, has a club where, for $79 a year, she'll send you a cloth pad every month that correlates to the season. Like, in October she'll send you one with witches or pumpkins or something. I'm not sure how good they are but it seems very intresting and looks like something i'd be willing to give a go! I've never used Lunapads, but I really love my Glad Rags. They're soft, comfortable in the extreme, more absorbent than disposable pads. I personally like the coloration on Glad Rags because they hide the menstrual blood stains well -- the ones I have are dark red and dark green. I'd be worried about brightly patterned pads getting stain-y. But if it appeals to you, give it a shot -- why don't you get one of each and see which you prefer?
