Nuva Ring & Sour Taste

As a bit of an update from here. The update, though, is really only tangentially related to the actual question.

So, I'm T+24 hours with my first Nuva Ring, and no vomiting. This is an HBC first for me.

What I did notice, just a few minutes ago, is that my vaginal taste has changed. While it is usually... um, of a robust flavor... now it is decidedly tart or sour.

The fluid has not changed in color or consistency, nor am I experiencing any itching, buring, or pain. I'm 99.5% certain that it's not a yeast infection or infection of another kind. The key element to the change seems to be the ring.

It's not a complaint, really, since I"m not sexually active at the moment and since receiving oral sex is not a huge part of my sex life. Just wondering whether this has happened to anyone else and if so, whether it's changed over time.

I experienced change with my taste/smell after the ring. The smell turned from normal vagina smell for me to a sort of vinegar like smell. not overpowering, but noticable if you had your face shoved down there i'd suppose.

also the taste has become more bitter but not really tart. more... musky i guess?

My smell hasn't changed, at least not as far as I can tell. Just my taste.

It's a side effect that sort of makes sense aince, after all, there are a number of new substances suddenly hanging out in my vagina. I'd just never heard anyone really mention it before.

Yeah, that happened to me. Like you, I only noticed a change in taste, not in smell. I've been on the ring for over a year now, and it hasn't gone away. My partner hasn't mentioned it, and often tells me I taste good, so I guess it's not so bad, but I don't really like it.

Suppose I'll gave to get used to it, then. But it should be worth it for the no-babies aspect of the situation. ;)

same here, i think i've been a bit more bitter/tart. when i asked my boy how i tasted, he just said "uhh.. like vagina?" hah, so it's not bothering him. if it's smelly/itchy, get it checked out, but it may be that the ring just does that.

Ooh, and I'm figuring something out: my cervical fluid is changing tastes, but vaginal arousal fluid -- since it's not actually coming into contact with the ring, maybe -- tastes the same. Perhaps this accounts for the reason your partner doesn't notice? Just a thought.

That's normal. But considering the fact that there are high concentrations of hormones coming out of you while you're wearing the ring, I highly suggest not being on the recieving end of oral sex, as your SO might ingest the hormones and that'd be bad.

Interesting. Have you had a partner who's had a negative health reaction to oral sex and the Nuva Ring?

Sorry if I'm prying, but I'm asking because all my research -- PP of Southeastern PA (http://www.ppsp.org/askbeth.asp?show_section=display_q_a&qaID=376) and Columbia University's Go Ask Alice! (http://www.goaskalice.columbia.edu/2540.html), as well as a conversation with my NP -- state that oral sex while on the Nuva Ring is just fine since the giver only comes into contact with small amounts of hormones.
