I have an ovarian cyst that is being surgically removed on the 19th. It causes abdominal pain.

Until then, I have what are the syptoms of a yeast infection.

Would I be alright to treat this yeast infection with a monistat treatment product? The warnings read "discontinue if you have abdominal pain".....well, I have abdominal pain alot now, but that's due to the cyst. It's Sunday, and I can't contact my doctor until tomorrow, but I wanted to start treatment today.

I think you're fine, too. My guess is that a main reason that warning is there is so people won't dismiss abdominal pain -- often an indicator of something more serious than a YI -- as simply another symtom of a yeast infection.

In your case, however, you know what's causing your abdominal pain, you don't think "it's just a yeast infection," and you're not planning on ignoring it. Bases covered. ;)

Have you had a yeast infection before -- one that you remember? If this is the first time you've had symptoms like this, it's generally recommended that you be diagnosed by a doctor before self-treating. Again, in case it's not yeast.

Though if your itching and burning are that bad, I totally understand not wanting to go another day without doing something about it.

What does your discharge look and smell like? Is it consistent with the symptoms of a YI?

I understand. Your symptoms sound pretty consistent with a yeast infection and less consistent with anything else it might be.

Essentially the worst things that could happen are:

1) It's not a YI, so the antifungal won't work, and you'll still be itchy and burny.
2) It's not a YI, and you build up a resistance to the antifungals, meaning any future yeast infections might be more difficult to treat.

But it's a calculated risk; personally, if I were in your situation, I'd start the Monistat (or other OTC antifungal cream).

Good luck!
