Losing my pill packet and then getting carried away with my boyfriend last night meant that today I needed to get hold of EC. I wasn't looking forward to it, as even though you can buy it or get it free on prescription here (the UK), I've still heard a few horror stories of friends of mine having problems when they went to get it.

I'd like to share my experience because it introduced me to a service I didn't know existed in my city, and is a great example of how easy it should be to get EC everywhere!

EC is free with a prescription here, or you can buy it for about £25 over the counter at the pharmacy. It being a sunday, my doctors is closed, so I decided to suck it up and spend the money, even though I can't really afford it until I get paid next week.

When I got there, the pharmacist gave me the number for a doctors that is open on sundays, so I would be able to get a prescription. I thought this would mean going across town to the clinic, but it was much much easier than that:
I called and left my details with a receptionist.
A doctor then called me back, asked me a few questions, and sent the prescription through to my local pharmacy for me, so all I had to do was wander back round half an hour later and sign for it.

I've now taken the pill, so I have my peace of mind, for free, and I didn't have to answer a load of qustions about my sex life in the middle of a pharmacy :)

I'd also like to thank VP - this community is one of the resources that's given me the confidence to go out and ask for things like EC, rather than ignoring the need and crossing my fingers as I have in the past.

It's almost that easy here, or at least was for me. I go to a clinic to get my birth control (income based sliding fee-even by donation if you don't have any income, suggested at 5$ exam and 2$ each pack of pills.) I actually asked if I could get a prescrip for plan B and the nurse went back to her little room and got the pack for me. So, instead of having to get a prescription filled for X amount of dollars (I have no insurance,) I got it included in my routine exam and now have it sitting in my medicine cabinet incase I need it.

Greatness.

In MA, you can request EC online at Planned Parenthood and they can call it into a local pharmacist. However, it's much more expensive doing it that way than going to get the pill sat PP. Also, with my bc perscription she wrote me a scrip for Plan B to use whenever I need as well.

canada got things right.
no prescription needed, no waiting for a clinic to open. you can walk into a 24-hour pharmacy at 3am, an hour after the condom broke or unprotected sex was had, and simply ask the pharmacist for one.

it's not free this way, but i'd rather pay a few dollars than wait until monday morning to go the sexual health clinic and get it for free.
