is ecp a medical emergency?

i think i already know the answer to this but i need a little advice. i am taking a month off the pill so we're using condoms and of course last night it broke. we didn't realize it until afterwards and it was too late. and of course today is sunday. i called my doctor's office and there's just a recording that has a number to call for medical emergencies. is that what i should do, call that number? or is there something else i should do at 4:30 p.m. on sunday? i am getting a little panicky about the whole situation and would love some advice. thanks!

edit: i called that number and talked to the doctor on call and she called in the ecp for me. it was no big deal and i feel much better. off to the pharmacy!

You can wait up to 5 days for taking emergency contraception.
So, tomorrow you'll be able to pick some up and be fine. The longer you wait, the less effective, but you're still in the "safe zone."

I thought you had to take it within 72 hours?

Nevermind, I looked it up, and it is MOST effective if taken within 72 hours, in which case, the OP still has time to take it and have it be most effective if she calls the doctor tomorrow morning.

yeah, I had it happen on the weekend and I went to the ER and the doc on call was an asshole but he prescribed it for me.
