I know a lot has been posted regarding anti-depressants and a lack of sex drive, but what about the effect anti-depressants can have on things like discharge and secretions?

I'm on Seroxat (Paxil in the US) & it seems to have a big impact on my vaginal...landscape? Every night when I take off my pants, the gusset is literally *wet.* I have a huge damp patch. I am pretty sure I am not incontinent nor is it sexual arousal (my sex drive is non-existant.) Also, when I look at myself in the mirror, I see lots and lots of...white paste type stuff (which I think might be smegma) around my clitoris and around my inner labia and sort of up inside as well. I wash daily, but it comes back incredibly quickly. Now, I was the same when I was taking Prozac, another SSRI anti-depressant but for a while last year I was on another anti-depressant called lofepramine which is a tricyclic anti-depressant (a completely different type) and I didn't get all these excessive secretions and white gunk.

So....has anyone else had similar experiences with SSRI anti-depressants? Is it even possible for anti-depressants to affect you in this way?
I need to bring it up with my doctor but I'm having trouble plucking up the courage because a) he's male & b) he's a sort of grandfather type figure.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm on Zoloft and both the things you've mentioned happened to me....as far as I know, they aren't anything bad, but don't quote me on that. You aren't alone...and isn't the lack of sexdrive annoying?

I was on Paxil- and it had the same sort of effects. I just had my doctor change me to Welbutrin because of the lack of sex drive thing... so we'll see if it has the same discharge deal.

Were you put on the regular, the extended relief or the one designed to increase your sex drive?

The reason I ask is I was originally put on regular (because my health insurance sucks) but between the appetite suppression and the digestive problems it gave me I was switched to the extended relief (which I wasn't allowed to have covered unless the regular one gave me problems or didn't work). I've never been on the sex drive one.

I don't know about the regular because I was only on it for a few days before the revolution my colon decided to start caused me to admit defeat (and I don't particularly feel like getting laid with the runs every 2 hours for 5 days) and was promptly switched to the extended relief.

The extended relief really suppressed my appetite so I was taken off of it after a year, and then put back on it with a lower dose combined with something else a year later which was about 4 months ago.

Anyway, why am I rambling on about this, you say?

I didn't really notice anything the first time in regard to my sex drive because mine has always been fairly high, but I noticed a significant drop when switched to a different drug. Since the Wellbutrin has been added back to my drug mixture I have noticed an immediate and HUGE, ENORMOUS, GIGANTIC, COLOSSAL increase in my sex drive, and I'm not even on the one that's specially designed to do that.

So anyway, yeah, Wellbutrin's great for your sex drive and I'd try the extended relief first because if it works for you as well as it did for me then the extra drugs to kick up your sex drive won't be needed (if I had those I'd probably go even crazier than I am considering it's almost all I think about now).

She put me on the regular one. I was on Paxil CR - the extended release one- and it made me a zombie AND gave me nightmares. Combine those with the NO sex drive at all and yeah- I was done.

I also have a fairly high sex drive, but it went to NOTHING when I was on Paxil. The good doc said that Wellbutrin is the only antidepressant that doesn't have the severe sexual affects, and she's right. My meds have been changed for 3 days, and I can already feel the difference.

I'm on Paxil, and apparently I'm one of the few who doesn't have the lack of sex drive.
I am, however, constantly wet. It's kinda gross.

I'm on Paxil as well, and experience the same symptoms as you ('cept I still have my drive.) I never actually connected being wet all the time to my meds, but it makes sense, now that you mention it.

It might be a good idea to have it checked out by a doctor just to make sure its not an infection of some sort. If it is the meds your doctor could try another if its really bothersome, there are alot of options w/ SSRI anti-depressants. As far as the doctor goes, perhaps you should change doctors. If you can't feel comfortable talking to him about anything, and I mean anything, that might happen then he can't help you. Maybe a female doctor would be easier for you? Either way remember whatever you tell the doctor, they hear it all and there's nothing you're going to say that will shock them or to be honest they will really care about (its their job to listen to that kind of stuff all day long).

For an extent of my lifetime I have been taking anti-depressants, Including zoloft, celexapro and now Paxil and yes I have experienced the discharge. Yet I would have never even considered the medication factor. I know that sexual side effects do happen when taking the medication; however, I wonder why abnormal, untimely discharge happens due to taking anti-deppresants. How could that be?
I definantly know that its not an infection. The more I think about it. I have had that wetness and its practically just lived with me. Perhaps its just my bodies way of expelling fluids, for it does it more frequently than it should.

I know this is an old post but I have the same exact discharge bit & wetness. I thought I was going insane, ha. I've been on Zoloft for a few years (off & on) so I must of fucked up my dosage enough somewhere.

The atypical antipsychotic Risperdal (risperidone) may cause an increase in prolactin, thereby causing lactation.

I just read this post, but I think I might have the same problem...
but I'm taking both Depakote and Lamictal for bipolar disorder, but they're still anti-depressants, right? or one of them is anyways.
White gunk, definitely and smelly, too.
