Okay, so my uterus is in an unhappy place, it seems, and I was wondering if anyone had experienced this. As a background, I just started atkins, and in the beginning you really can't eat anything but meat, eggs, cheese, and some veggies. No fruit. No drinks but water. No bread. No nothing. I take a daily vitamin supplement, though. I thought that might have some impact on my goings on down there.

Anyway, I'm not due for another 6 or 7 days with my period. Yesterday, it just hurt. It wasn't really cramping. It felt like that hot "on fire" sensation you feel when you're actually on your period. There was a little brownish discharge and such, but then it went away. It just feels like all of January, I've been sore in my uterus, and occasionally bleeding... well, more like browning. It's so bizarre. Also, the entrance to my cervix feels a wee sore, like I'm about to start my period or something.

Is there something wrong with me? Could it be the rapid diet change? Help!

*Some* veggies? If you weren't spotting, I would say that you're short on fibre, causing abdominal cramps. If you don't want to increase your veggie intake, you ought to take a fibre supplement so your bowels don't stop completely!

Sorry I don't have any spotting advice. I'm sure someone below me will help you out.

I have IBS and my bowel pains often feel like menstrual pains... but that wasn't my point. Just make sure you get enough fibre or you'll be regretting it in a few days.

I hope you feel better soon! Good luck.

Atkins can be super good for you if done right (as in you've probably talked it over with a doctor) so I'm not going to say you shouldnt do it (I worked in a medical nutrition lab for 4 years, so I know it's a good thing if carefully undertaken) That said, I personally don't know that it is Directly related, though the sudden diet shift coupled with the proximity to your period could have confused your body since it has specific needs in order to menstruate. It's also possible that even though you are taking a vitamin supplement it is being absorbed differently than normal which could cause discomfort. Lastly, you could have changed your body's internal pH which could make things uncomfy by letting things that don't normally live there get going.

Sorry it's so long, and not specifically helpful, but in summary, yeah they could be linked :)

I honestly couldn't give you a really certain answer, where I worked never looked into hormonal or sexual side effects, all I know is what I said above, which is that you did just put yourself through a really radical change. I'd say just give your dr a call
